Guest buster321c
Hiya guys , just after a bit of advise really . The local school caretaker has asked me to remove a fox from the grounds and just wondered the best way . I really only shoot rabbits, so not sure how to go about this , but i do have a cage trap that i think is big enough for a small fox, and i was going to bait it ,leave it a week or so and then set it . Will this be ok , or will the fox not go into a small (ish ) cage trap ? I`ll dig the trap out later and see the size . Cheers in advance , atb Buster Quote Link to post
lewismac1 1
Yes, if it is big enough say 4 feet by 6 ish, If you shoot rabbits skin some and keep the guts keeping the skins, Throw all the guts in the trap and wear gloves or the fox will scent you from it. One you have caught a fox do you have a suitable rifle or a .410 to do the job properly? cheers Quote Link to post

Guest busterdog
when sayed fox has got enough confidence to go into your trap after days of feeding and gradualy feeding further and further back from the front of the trap, remember to tie your chosen bait firmly in to place or your fox will just strole of with an easy meal, learnt from bitter experience. Jaggsy 25
Personally i'd talk to the caretaker explaining the difficulties involved with snaring and trapping (not a pretty site for teachers and kids if they should happen to see it first) also, as a chap said further up if trapped your still going to have to dispatch it, IMO the most direct humane and simplest way would be to risk assess it, work out your shot (angle of trajectory etc.) bait for a few nights with cat food so you've got it right where you need it to be...then shoot it...in the sack or bag and jobs are good.. (minimum calibre .22 by the way, not sure if you have your FAC) Martin Quote Link to post
Guest buster321c
Dont have, Fac , mate but a friend of mine does and like you say around a school dont want to snare it really Quote Link to post
hound 1
get a good quality cage trap and prebait before trapping cover the bottom of the trap with fine soil. i do alot of fox trapping at schools through my job (pest controller) at the moment i have 7 school jobs on the go. Deker 3,478
Cage, Fox trapping is simple in principle but can be a nightmare....I have caught them day one, and other times been after then for 3 months and they walk all around the trap absolutely refusing to go in!! Quote Link to post
