A trip out for few hours

Recommended Posts

Seeing as this is my 1000 post i thought i would put some pics up of todays ferreting trip.

Got up to my permish about 7.15am,just as it was getting light, went to the first hedgerow as you can see from the first pics,NO chance of setting purse nets so i thought i would use my stop nets that i made out of a 100yd long net.

As you can see the hedges where overgrown with nettles and thing, also there is a electric fence up tight againest the hedge, and yes it was on :censored::icon_eek::cry: i got zapped a few times,so it was out with the stop nets and ferret entered.

I know the net probably does not look set right and i know the sticks are a bit to thick, but they work for me.I am mainly a purse net man.

Well a few mins wait and the first rabbit hits the net.

Untangled and ready for the next, which was not to long await and rabbit number 2 hits the net,as you can see from the pic it only just managed to hit the net,a few inches to the left and it would have escaped.I learned for next time.

Well the sun was up by now and it was getting a bit warm,so off to the next warren.I had plans to start a new jill on this set of holes. As with the last warren the undergrowth was high.

I set 2 stop nets on this side and 2 on the other side.

So i enetered the new jill,at first she was a bit reluctant to go down but after a bit she went so i stood back,i got the camera out to take a photo of the warren when i rabbit came flying, through the hedge and got caught in the stop net the other side.

The jill shown then went back,a rabbit hopped out of 1 hole in to another, this happened a few times so i entered the older jill. The rabbit bolted and went round my stop net :censored::wallbash: (still learning,i will set it a bit closer next time)and ran in to a 2 holed sett abit further up the hedge,so i picked up the older jill and entered her,The rabbit bolted again, went through the hedge, round the other net :censored: i thought feck me, this rabbits laughing at me by now.

I saw it come back trough the hedge a bit further up and run in to a single hole,i thought right you are mine, set a purse net over the hole and put in the ferret, the rabbit bolted but this time it did not get away :toast::clapper: .

By this time it was getting warm so i thought i would call it a day,on the way back across the field i found a few bluestalks(bluies, blewits) :boogie: if you folks have never tried them i suggest you do they are better the field mushrooms.

I like the look of them stakes supporting the long net could you put up a better picture of them. I am just using hazel sticks for my two 12ft stop nets.
