ive been using tiny bits of cooked ham as rewards for blaine when he comes to me and when he sits but lots of tiny bits are adding up to big bits and they are starting to give him the sqits!

ive stopped giving him the ham but now im stuck not being sure what i can use to reward him!, any one got any ideas what i can use other than praise thats not going to upset his stomach?

cheers

Alright mr, the rewards dont have to get big as the dog does.

I use always used either liver and garlic blended up and hard baked then cut into tiny bits, but too much can make em loose. Or try small parts of his food, in my case bits of tripe, but it does stink and dont keep to well in your jacket pockets. But if its dry its easy enough, and just use it as a treat not a feed.

I used to find a tube of primula spread excellent as I always kept it in my jacket pocket, and you just squirt some out for a reward when the dog comes back, then put the lid on until next time.

give my pup cooked chicken in tiny cubes she loves it, dont give it her everytime she does something right, she gets praise the other times!! keep her guessing. think all dogs love cheese but can get bit smelly in pocket & cooked meats ! my 8 week old bitch sitting, lies down & comes on recall all the time! retrieves 50 percent of time which working on more now! after having her 2 weeks, am well happy with that!

good luck with pup hyperion

Cheese, hotdogs cut into little chunks, Cooked chicken, liver cake (PM me for reciepe if needed). All of these will work as they are smelly and puppies generally go mad for them. As long as you vary the treats he won't get too loose. IMO using normal kibble or buiscuit isn't as effective as something extra smelly and yummy!

My Bed X Whippet pup will heal the entire walk if i take cheese, when i take normal kibble , his recall isn't quite as good as it should be!!!! :whistling:

Liver cake is the best i think as you can make a big batch then freeze it and take out little amounts when you need it, My 3 will do ANYTHING for the tiniest piece! :notworthy::clapper:

Have you tried soft toys with a squeaker? My pup loves his fluffy duck and spends hours setting off the duck noise inside. Can normally always hear a quacking coming from the kitchen! Also no more than 5 mins at a time with such a young pup, for training etc. They learn a lot more with little and often.

not sure if ment play tug of war with them give them bad habits! my pup getting good when got toy in mouth say dead & she lets me have it & sits waitin for me to throw it again or give her treat!

keep going ive spent while teaching her & seen my other dog do it which prob helps alot
