Paul in North Lincs 15
Had a phone call from the farmer manager of some new permission we have saying he was going to have to re-drill a aload of rape fields as they were getting battered by rabbits. Anway we'd made the arangeemnt to go..and even tho it was a glaring full moon without a wisp of wind, we tallied up to show willing - in anticipation of a rubbish night. Anyway after a 40 minute drive we arrive some where near Stowe, not far from lincoln. about 8.00 As we thought, there was not much gear about. I took the ex track grey I've been working on for a couple of months and was over the moon with how he worked.......he was really green and lazy when I first got him..but have put hours and hours into him, and its starting to pay off One spot was a lampers paradise...........with a rail way embankment, running three miles throught the middle of the permission........the full legth either side was rabbit fenced...so we lamped 3 miles one side and three miles back on the other side...................the rabbits that were sat out were running back to the embankment and were bouncing off the fencing and getting nailed.........................we'd already been down without the dogs on a windy night and it was jumping with em, - but not tonight Any way ran 12 good long and sometimes quite testing runs and ended up with 10.......the grey - although very heavy mouthed worked extremely well..retreiving back to hand and recalling well. not bad to say 2 months ago when I got him, he had been living in someones house for 9 months and hadnt even been out for a walk!!..when I first got him he ran 100 yards anmd calapsed in heap puffing and panting!. Forgot the camera this time...so sorry if its not interesting - but I know a few lads on here would be interested to see how he's getting on! the picture below is of him a month after I'd got him..................... victor 10
nice to hear your dog is comming on verry nicely, sounds a good property but was thinking could be a disadvantage with the baks, if a rabbit runs up it and down the outher side youve got no sight . Quote Link to post
Gooner 143
Good honest write up. Well done for taking on the greyhound Quote Link to post

Paul in North Lincs 15
i missed out on that land paul im only 15 mins down the road lol ......................... snooze....and ya loose there no shooting sydicate over the land which in unusual for that side of Lincs, as a result, no ones controlled the rabbits to any degree really.................the land is crawling...and I've never seen so many hares in my life. My cousin just happend to get chatting to a bloke who, ask about rabbiting....dropped a few names...produced the insurance....and some ferreting society membership, and there you have it. Also got the piugeon shooting - good crack when it gets a bit colder. Quote Link to post
