kingfisher 0
10ft Northwestern stalker 2 lb test curve for extracting old barbus from any watery snags,2x12ft greys prodigy barbel rods 1.75lb test curve for twin rodding on the severn, 12ft fox speacialist 1lb test curve quiver rod for winter chub work A selection of general coarse and float rods Commrant telescopic for the odd bit of trout, perch spinning at work My main barbel reels are the shimano 5ooo re's bait runnners,I love em! Kingfisher I reckon your pretty much there mate about reels, a good clutch means everything, but also the right rod too and the action of it. I always look for barbel rods that compress nicely with a good through action, meaning basicaly that they soak up a lot of the power of the fish rather that stressing the line and knots etc. I reckon its the same throughout any fishing and hunting its all about having the right tools for the job your not wrong barbus, i prefer a through action rod for most uses and the right tool for the job does help but i still say that i can pretty much do most fishing within reason with a non specific rod but give me a crap reel with an equaly crap clutch and it make life quite difficult, i dont mind back winding but im not great with it as im used to using the clutch. Barbus 0
Same as me mate, crap on on the backwind to be honest......much prefer to rely on the clutch! Also prefer rear drag too if I need to make ajustments whilst playing a fish. Quote Link to post
Barbus 0
always the same mate, things always happen like that when you know it's a biggy and your right I should practise my backwinding Quote Link to post
