My son arrived home from school at 10.30 with a face like thunder he has been excluded from school for 5 days for punching a known bully who was picking on a younger lad, he didnt make the lad bleed or anything just put him on his arse

 

This happened an hour after school when my lad was on his way home from guitar practice, but i just wondered how long after school there still in the schools care as such , what i am annoyed at is the parents of the lad who he punched said they were involving the police if my lad wasnt excluded

 

I havent been able to get in touch with the teacher who issued the exclusion, it happened out of school & i feel its a bit rich issuing an exclusion when it wasnt on the school premmises

 

Is anyone on here fammilier with exclusions from schools

if the kids are in uniform it makes it a school problem . now he is excluded send your boy round the other lads house and get him to do a proper number on him , jesus at least get your five days worth

Sounds a bit harsh when it happend out of the school premises Kay . Definitley one I would take up with the head if I was you, Mind you I bet he is loving it having 5 days off ....

 

My lad had a simular situation a while back but he sorted it out the proper way much like yours did in the end. he got suspended because it was IN the school premises but when the Head looked into the history of the other lad involved it was reduced to 3 days .....

I feel a bit pissed off as he was genuinly sticking up for a little lad who he could see was out of his deapth , if it had been a severre kicking my lad had given him i would have wacked the bugger again when he got home , it was simply 1 punch & my lad walked off

You could try getting the lad who was being bullied to speak to the head? If nothing else, it may get the punishment reduced....

 

I would make sure the head is aware of both sides of the story. Exclusion sounds a bit harsh to me.

had same probs with schools but its my daughters mouth thats the prob excluded for 3 day first time then ah week bits they new way of punishment what swrong way belt ?????????????? as for meeting with teacher as get to bottom of it ave told mine that if it dont stop am going sit in her classes

I thinks its harsh as well, my lads typical of a 14 yr old , full of testosterone but he isnt a trouble maker & only ever retaliates when provoked, i suppose all i can do is wait till i can speak with the teacher who dealt with it

Kay that does sound a little harsh but the rules we are governed by these days often are!!

If that was my lad I would have a chat with him pointing out that there are plenty of other ways of resolving a situation without resorting to violence......but at the same time let him know that sometimes due to temper or the sitaution itself you may feel like there is no other option and that you are bloody proud of him for how he acted. One punch knock-down then walking away......big respect to the young lad!!

As far as resolving it with the school, you may do more harm than good......getting mummy involved + all that. Maybe a quiet word on how you feel with the head but at the same time telling him if that's how he wants to run his school then you can only abide by his decision.....bet that'll wind him up more and may make him think differently in the future?

Exclusions have to be sanctioned by the Head, so that's the person to speak to. It's usually mandatory for 'fighting'. A really nice lass in my Y9 form was excluded years ago. Put a bully on her back, same as your lad. I offered to speak to her Dad, but he was totally supportive of his daughter, so no need. Spoke to the HOY, and he told me he didn't have an option.

 

As BRB said, if he was in uniform it's a school matter. 5 days was excessive though. 2 days would have been fairer.

Get onto the little lad's parents. Get 'em to kick up a stink about the bully.

One thing I might add, is that an exclusion is on record. So your lad could be held in dis-repute (albeit a normal 14 year old's actions in most cases) for a while, which is completely unfair given the circumstances.

 

Fighting is violence, OK we all know this, but five days is a long time! I can't recall anything over a three day exclusion!

 

As is said, get the younger lad on your side along with his parents, and out this issue, it's the only way which you have a chance as far as I can see, the Governors of the school are there of course, but TBH, almost always side with the Head's decisions, but by all means put in an appeal/complaint to them. They have to look into it!!

Can't fault your lad Kay , I feckin hate bullies and your lad did the right thing, in fact a bully deserves what he gets over and over , yes it's back-fired but it's a learning thing

ive been excluded a fair amount of times for fighting they should really give you a call on saying why and for how long there excluded for plus there not serpost to exclude him if it was out of school anyway... stuff the police if they do get involved tell them what really happend that big kid was bullying another child and your son defended that child and his self.. always works for me lol

I did the same this year. A well known 'chav' 'started on me' and i layed him out. guess who got in shite for that??? yes me! but my mum (a bit of a handful when she gets a bee in her bonet) went into school and sorted it. I was planned to have exclusion but me mother got it down to a regular after school detention. pity really as I would of had a full week of solid hunting haha.

i think your lad should be appluaded for standing up for someone who couldn't no matter what the school says......well done that lad now tell mummy kay you want a fender stratocaster for been a good boy..................

if fairness i would talk to the head kay and tell the story to him/her........good luck

Feel for you Kay - my 6 year old has just been excluded from school also.

The board of governers should be your port of call. You should have got written notice from the head stating why and when the exclusion includes, and it should also contain the details for contact.

Ask for a copy of the full written report that HAS to be made for the incident.

This willl stay on his school record, if you disagree with the exclusion, make your complaints and arguements.

And while you are at it, ask for a copy of his school report. If good behavior is consistent, you can ask for an inclusion of charector so its not such a bad mark in his record.
