gun cabinet

im having some problems with where to put my cabinet for an fac. ive held an sgc for quite a few years now and since applying for my fac we have moved house. i sent off for it two days ago and want to get my cabinet in place before the feo comes for the interview. the problem is that the only feasible space for my cabinet is under the stairs. that has a maximum height of 40 inches. will it be possible to fit a rifle in a cabinet that big or is it not possible?

for example how long is a cz 452 varmint with 20" barrel and a moderator. am i going to fit it into a cabinet that big.

I don't have a CZ so I can't say. I'm sure someone here knows what theirs measures. Best I can advise without having one is to try CZ's website for measurements or have a look at some shooting members sig lines, I know some have their guns listed and you could drop them a PM? As for the moderator, I would remove it from the rifle for storage, it won't affect your zero

 

Alternative gun would be a Sako Quad, you can remove the entire barrel and that most definately would fit!

for a start you won't get a gun cabinet that small to suit rifles i would think.......

so i would suggest you have a scout about the house again to see where you could put it.......... good luck i hope you get granted your fac

I don't believe there is anything in the Home Office guidelines that requires you to have a gun cabinet that must stand upright. You could lay it flat under the stairs as long as it is secured to the fabric (brickwork) of the building

i went to see my local firearms dealer today and ad a chat with about it whilst having a look at the cz 452 silhouette. nice little rifle anyway he said that unless you get a cabinet specifically tailored to the size you want you wont find one that small. and im not mr moneybags splashing out on alot for a tailor made gun cabinet. i would assume they cost in excess of £500 so thats out of the question. i may have to lie it flat somewhere. quick question. does the cabinet have to be kept in the home or residence of the fac holder. i only ask because my old man is a farmer and we have a pretty secure workshop where we could keep it.

No.... is the simple answer to that, but you are wondering into an area where you would be best to discuss this with your FEO, as he is ultimately the person who needs to be satisfied!!

 

And mounting your cabinet horizontally is perfectly acceptable legally!!

You mentioned SGC for your current cabinet...does this have a seperate lockable compartment in it, cabinet requirement are different for SGC and FAC?!?!

no unfortunately not. i need to fork out about 40 quid for an ammo safe. i will hopefully get that installed before the FEO comes to visit so one i can get on and (hopefully) get my fac more quickly and two so that the FEO can visit other people rather than waste time having to come back to ensure its fitted correctly. does anyone live in or near northamptonshire. how long does it take roughly? ive heard some can have their fac within a few weeks whereas others wait months.

tried fitting my cabinet under the stairs this evening. :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: too bloody big to fit in round the corner. stupid thing. means i now have to go and get 2/3 gun cabinet and sell the monster we have currently :wallbash:

Always the way...I have 3 cabinets and not one was easy to fit...there is always something that crops up/goes wrong!!
