hello peeps

 

fish cakes !!! ...seen various ways n methods.... but still havent attempted it yet but gonna soon

so how do you do yours?

whats yer preference.. white fish or trout n salmon???

I can do fish pie but never tried making fish cakes , i think i may have a go :thumbs:

Fish pie is mainly white fish though isnt it kay?

Fairly true mackem but my mate does a mean one with mostly 'white' fish and a bit of trout or salmon few added prawns and mussels, keeps it 'interesting'!

Well i just used fish, i dont know what it was , it tasted nice though :laugh: i am not up on fish , its all a mystery to me once its froze :laugh:

Sauer.

I'll see if I can help. You need some good mashing tatties. Bit of smoked fish and a bit of white fish.

 

Boils and mash the tatties, touch of seasoning and butter but leave them fairly dry. Poach the fish in a bit of milk, gently does it. Flake the fish. Mix in with the mash adding some of the milk as necessary. Form into decent round cakes 3" diameter and 3/4" thick. Beat an egg and make some breadcrumbs seasoned with a bit of herb. Coat cakes in egg and cover in breadcrumbs. Shallow fry in decent oil (not olive oil) until golden brown on both sides.

 

You can use any fish as long as it has been boned. I think a bit of smoked fish raises it from being bland.

the kids love my fish bites which are made with whiting filleted and cut into chunks first flour the fish then dip it into the egg and then into crush a packet of sage and onion mix deep fry until golden brown server with some chillie sauce dip.. :thumbs: ...john

I used to eat a thing called a cannonball fish cake.

It was a round fish cake made with tuna and cod and potato. Well seasoned.. About 2-3" diameter.

It then covered in batter and deep fried.

A couple were a meal on their own.

Defo going to make some on the weekend now..
