HAS ANY ONE HEARD OF FERRETS EATING EACH OTHER

WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP THIS PLEASE ANY ANY ADVICE WELCOME

AS I LOST ONE OF MY BEST FERRETS LAST NIGHT DUE TO

THE HOB EATING HER AND ALL THAT WAS LEFT WHEN I FOUND HER WAS

A TAIL LEGS AND THEETH

 

AND YES THEY ARE WELL FED ON BIRDS AND RABBITS

It happens to mine when they die naturally, their mates always eat them, it doesn't seem that their killing and eating each other, just that they eat another ferret once it's already dead, I find a tail and legs left behind as well. Was the one that got eaten already old/ill?

hi mate if they are eating birds /rabbits also put some dry food in to get them through the day and plenty of water cheers

Its happened here twice both hobs as well, first one was a young male i found half eaten & the second time it was an old boy , i have no idea why they do it , food was plentyfull so i disregarded that as a possible reason, just remove the hob in question thats all you can do.

 

Perhaps its selective culling of there own kind due to some unknown condition thats not become apparent to the keeper .

Of course if a ferret kills another ferret it will probably do it again... unless you take it away from other ferrets.

 

And not trying to suck up or anything, lol, but just because hes a moderator doesnt mean he isnt entitled to an opinion.

its weird aint it, most of the other replies, state the obvious same as me, or say to feed more, yet Im the only one to get slagged for it

jasus,dats a new 1 on me ..iv heard of jills eatin new born kits if there spooked or disturbed 2 much bu neva full grown ferrets eatin eachudr..d u know if it died on its own or if it was killed by the othere ferret?...how long do u have the 'canibal' ferret ?
