anythingoes 28
i think people think they are not really that athletic dog ,but how wrong they are ,A TOP WORKING LABRADOR IS TRULY A POWERFUL AND A ATHLETIC DOG WHICH IS FASTER THAN ANY BULLTERRIER AND BEDLINGTON.I MY SELF HAVE A WORKING LABRADOR BITCH WICH IS A FANTASTIC WORKER.YOU HAVE TO GET THE RIGHT STAMP OF LABRADOR;EITHER DOG OR BITCH AND CROSS WITH A WELL BRED GREYHOUND WICH IS JUST AS INPORTANT. can kind of agree with you there mate i 1nc went with a mate and got a 1st cross black lad x grew dog it was 25 to the shoulder had pleny of stamina but speed no just to heavy boned but in saying that he was 2wen he got him :db: :Db:he was a great cover dog great for flushin kit out but not much of a catcher and he could also finish it to hard jaws he had a supose breading count as a say he was 2 [bANNED TEXT] a got him Edited October 14, 2008 by anythingoes Quote Link to post

doga 50
ther are certain strains of lab still about that would fit the bill not the heavier types, father and son both keepers from derby had such strains fast and light in build may be these are the sort to be used, and of course staying away from anything displastic. craigyboy 1,274
like i said if u can make a working lurcher out of BULL; BEDLINGTON;AND SEVERAL OTHER DOGS ,SURELY U CAN WITH A WORKING LABRADOR,WHICH IN MY OPINION THEY HAVE ALOT MORE THAN OTHER CROSSES TO OFFER. like what if they had a lot more to offer than other crosses, surely there would be a lot more of em out there,i just cant see the point of breeding this cross when theres more than enough xs that can do the job far better imo what quarry do you hunt that needs this x : and my opinions the same on garypco thread about weimaraner x why Edited October 15, 2008 by craigyboy Quote Link to post
pryor1 0
a top working labrador is streets ahead of a weimarner in working ability and temprement;I have never seen a weimarner work never mind be better than a labrador.THE thing is there is no guarantee with any cross breed, but u have to try. Bosun11 537
A good few years back a local lad had a cracker, made a fair name for itself around Liverpool, both day and night this first cross was both very inteligent and game as feck. Ted Walsh mentions them in his L&LD's, they've been around for a while and I'm sure back before the boom they must have earned their keep as back then people didn't carry passengers. What made them go out of favour, maybe the 'climate' back then as both commercial bred collie crosses and bull crosses made an impact. Maybe it was simply that all those early references always pointed to the 'high litter wasage', I've always found this very misleading, as you only have to look toward well bred working Lab's to see that lean, well sprung shape. Anyways... just my thoughts.... Quote Link to post

Anyways... just my thoughts.... Spot on , i used do some beating on a few shoots , and some of the labs ive seen were as you said [ lean+leggy with great nose+ stamina] if you can get the right sort of lab, put to greyhound it could make a great lurcher. Ive had bullxs and colliexs, ive got a 1x collie grey now, all were good dogs. The labxgrey from the right stuff, as a lot to offer in the lurcher world BIRD Quote Link to post

Guest ASD
The very 1st lurcher i ever seen catch a bunny was a lab x grey,a very powerful dog and very quick off the mark too.Lamping was unheard of so this fella had to do it all during the day and he made a very good reputation for himself back then .I think i'd be quite interested in one myself if the chance ever arose .Cheers Andy. Guest greengrass123
Had one of this breeding 20 years ago turned out to be a fairly useful dog, was off the old style lab, not one of the barrel on legs you see nowadays. Funny thing was, it was the hardest mouthed dog i have ever owned. Quote Link to post
