A straight question here,if you were walking your working terrier on a public footpath and your dog went to ground in a one holer, can't you be digging to rescue your trapped terrier?.

Depends whats in the hole mate, best thing you can do is get in touch with your local fell and moorland club who will be better to advise.

Could take ages for someone to get there though, have to say myself i would just get on with it(did have this happen to me with a fox earth and went to the farm for a spade,i wasn't the first)fine line really as if it was something your not allowed to dig then leaving the dog there could be a worse case of cruilty wouldn't it?.What do the F&M do when a dog is to ground where it's against the law to disturb as getting legal permision will take time,if i could get a mark on my dog i'd be digging first to get it back out, less time less stress all round i'd say.If i was sure someone would come along i would phone someone of an offical nature to tell them what i was doing to rescue my dog.

Im not saying wait mate, by all means start digging. Im just sayin the fell and moorland are classed as a rescue club and will go the correct way around letting the correct people know what your doing and the fact your not trying to hide anything. Also if its a complicated dig people will come an help you.

know what your saying mate, just wondering if this did happen in a honest mistake do you think your'd get nicked for illigal disturbance.Would be a hard one to rule, accidental going to ground does happen and just wondered about the law concerning it,cheers for your help.

if you got permission mate dig it no prob cause if they aint and they put one foot off that path then there tresspassing !!!!!!!!!

Aye, good point there!

But one point that has been missed by some, is that single holers are a strict NO NO with todays (rediculous) legisltion!

i suppose so but there was a chpter in one of darcy's books about single holes i think and about how you still get bolts from them

Of course you can still get bolts from single holers!

The point was that it is now illegal to work a single eyed hole, and if its next to a footpath.......... well, you never know what fecking busy boddy going to come along and feck yor day!

There has already been a conviction for this offence, possibly more now.

so just be careful!! :gunsmilie:
