Timelord 0
Well as some of you know I've ordered the Theoben S-TYPE in .177. I phoned Theoben today and they recommend using Air Arms Field pellets for this rifle. My question is which diameter head would be the best choice in my rifle? There is 2 different diameter heads in these pellets ie 4.51mm and 4.52mm. Theoben said to me that it is down to personal choice so I will get both diameters. Can anybody here shed any light on these pellets and experiences with both diameters? Quote Link to post
borak 1
i use the .52s in my s410 clasic they seem to be a better fit in the mag and the grouping is great on them heres a 10 shot group at around the 40 yard mark Quote Link to post

borak 1
yeh i agree i did try a few .51s in the gunshop when i bought my s410 they just seemed to rattle around in the mag and when i fired a few the group seemed to open out compaired to the .52s Edited October 14, 2008 by borak Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
I see your reasoning behind this now, because if the pellets are rattling around in the mag, this give room for play and could also (as the bolt is pushed forward) deform the pellet as it's being pushed into the breech.... Deker 3,478
You need to try them BOTH, doesn't matter what anyone else says..each barrel is different...I use the .22 and 5.51 all the time, groups better, flies faster and works..the 5.52 is too tight up my barrel; and I loose nearly 1/2 ft lb!! Cheers Deker now yours is .22 (5.51 & 5.52) so this will have more surface area to cover giving more friction. Mine will be .177 (4.51 & 4.52) meaning there's less surface area to cause less friction. I'm gonna try both and post my results when my rifle arrives. I will be doing a full review of my Theoben .177 S-TYPE rifle and I will show my result with both diameter heads Quote Link to post

When I spoke to Theoben today they told me that my gun was being built as we speak, they told me it will be built and tested within the 3 weeks and be out for delivery to my local gun shop Oh yes I just can't wait to admire and shoot such a pure hunting machine Quote Link to post

Yes I took into consideration about yours being FAC and I remembered from some of your previous posts. I will try both out to see which ones are suitable to my Theoben S-TYPE and post my findings on these forums.... Quote Link to post
Guest buster321c
I would wait till you get the gun and measure the bore with your digital vernia callipers Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
I would wait till you get the gun and measure the bore with your digital vernia callipers Well if the larger one are too large they won't go to waste as I will use them in a .177 pistol I have. As for measuring with m,y calipers well I'm sure the Theoben's bore will be 4.5mm to the 1/1000 of a mm, this will be due to the German barrel probably Anshutz Quote Link to post
