hi everyone

 

Was just wondering how much better the top end scopes are over the cheaper ones? i currently have a hawke airmax sr6 4-12x44 on my hw100 and am happy with the accuracy, zoom and clearness but then again ive never looked through say a mtc viper or bushnell scope for example.

 

what im asking is although im fairly happy with my scope i feel like i want to upgrade but isit worth the extra money? will i see a diffrence that justifies an extra £100-200?

Save your money lad and put it into something else

 

Don't get me wrong I love good glass but if the scope you have is leading to no misses and you are coping fine then any change is not necessary.

Not specifically used the Airmax but changing scopes is very personal and any dealer will let you have a look through one first anyway!!

 

But you would probably have to spend a LOT more to notice any much difference!!!

Very true. The most expensive optics make a very real difference in very poor light, but cheaper stuff does the job in daylight. I have a pair of Swarovski binoculars which probably give me an extra 15-20 minutes usable light when deer stalking, compared to a pair of £60 binoculars. But leaving aside the slightly more obvious chromatic aberration and barrel distortion, at short range, from the cheaper set, then they are both equally usable in daylight in terms of brightness and clarity. You pays your money etc etc!

i have 3-9x40s and i am upgrading too 6-24x50s i will see the difference but your scope has a high magnification so there next set would be either dear or like a telescope lol

Be careful not to confuse quality with quantity.!!

Bigger scope doesnt mean better quality.

You can £500 for a Swarovski 6X40

or £50 for an ebay 6-24x 56

I know what i'd rather have.

 

Better quality means longer shooting time in borderline light conditions etc.

Good scopes do make a difference, My mates leupold has such a plesant reticle to sight in with (very fine) and great clarity. Also looking through a swarovski you will be amazing at how cloudy your 'cheaper' scope is. I know I did.

 

At the midland game fair I had a good look through some of those MTC that are raved about and to be fair they wern't really clear at all. Even compared to much cheaper scopes of equivalent mag. Reticle was nice if thats your type of thing though.

 

At air rifle ranges for hunting top end glass might not make much of a difference to you.
