Weimaraner 0
1st gun/hunting related post, here goes. Most of you good people will know from my intro thread that I recently applied for my FAC and SGC and I have sent off all the relevant forms, references etc. It's been around 3 weeks now and I checked my bank balance this morning, and the cheque has been cashed, so, unless any of you guys/gals know any better, I should be getting my certificates soon as I believe if you are not approved, you get the cheque/cash/PO back. Am I jumping the gun (no pun intended) or is it know safe to assume I have been successful? Thanks all. Dale. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
It is one of the first things they do in General. There are still a lot of things which can go wrong, and a lot of reasons that an application can be refused for. Start expecting you certificates when you have had your visit from the Enquiry Officer and he has given you the informal thumbs up. SS Quote Link to post

I am probably in about the same position, cheque cashed but only 2 weeks since all paperwork sent off. You will receive a letter or tel call to arrange a mutually convenient time for the FEO or whatever he or she is called, to visit you to check you out/view security etc. They will not just send you the certs without going through the procedure, even tho it does vary largely from one area to another Editede to add; Hope I can shoot faster than I can type Edited October 13, 2008 by cyclonebri1 Quote Link to post
Weimaraner 0
That's what I couldn't understand is that I hadn't even had a phonecall off the FAO. After seeing the cheque cashed, I was elated but it's back to crossing fingers by the looks. Quote Link to post

wildfowler4 0
Don't get too excited yet. You will get a call or a letter from the FEO to arrange a visit. They will "interview" you and carry out some security checks in your house and also ask you to shoe them where you have/intend to install your gun cabinet. After the interview they will inform you whether they are going to forward your application for approval. If they do they may give you permission to install your cabinet. They will then put forward your application for approval. In the meantime you install your cabinet and call the FEO and inform them. They come back and confirm it complies with the standards (i.e. the installation and the cabinet) You receive your license say 2 weeks later. Please note that even after the FEO has given his approval it can still be rejected by the chief but not normally. Some forces differ but the was my experience with the Met. Hope this helps and good luck Quote Link to post

Hope this helps and good luck You don't need the FEO's or the Licensing Departments permission to install a cabinet. If you are confident of getting your certificate, then you could install it anytime. And it really depends on where you are, as to how long your cert will take, some, such as those in West Mercia, have been waiting months and months. Regards SS Quote Link to post
Weimaraner 0
Cheers guys, very helpful. I did consider installing a cabinet and I know I will have to in time but I'm going to discuss the location first with the FEO as non of our interior walls are brick or stone, just studded plaster board. We have a couple of internal cupboards that are part of the house and I was going to use one of these for the cabinet, so it's out of sight. I am concerned about the fact that only our external walls are made of brick. Quote Link to post

My mate has the same type of house put his cabinet in the loft bolted to the struts that hold the ceiling Quote Link to post

Mine was in the loft (and still is) from last time round so can't see any issues as although it isn't BS marked as the BS standard didn't exist then, but it was police approved at the firearms dealer that sold the type. There was no definate requirement to have a separate ammo safe back then, (about 1990 I think), is it definate that you now need one? I have actually fitted one as again I had an old none BS one lying around, but the guidelines I have been sent by Derbyshire Force say yes where the Firearms guidance notes seem to only recommend one. Anyway I'm giving them no negatives Quote Link to post

Have a look at the Pinned articles at the top of the forum page. SS Quote Link to post

NOBODY has to give you permission to install a cabinet...get it done and stop wasting your FEOs time so he can visit other people!! Edited October 14, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
