mark.a 0
The main difference between a good and bad ferret is wether it will go down that extra level or ledge to get to the rabbits. Some will only circle around the upper levels and you will get no results, no matter how many times you work them. Thats why you end up digging to the good ones! Quote Link to post

Guest gaspode
end up diggin to the good ones ......bollocks .....and just cause there might be 5\6\7 rabbits in a stop im thinkin i get enough from the nets or the dogs........... when i was a young learner if the ferret had to be dug too it was on its last warning........im out to enjoy myself not grunt and sweat for hours with a shovel .........oh yeah and by the way most times where i go the furts are out of range of the locator a good ferret is the one that works all day and comes out itself not biting or leaving you knackered through digging......this animal is worth its weight in gold but then of course im of the old style when we learned to work our animals not bought a ferret, net and locator box and was ready to go....not forgetting the trusty spade Quote Link to post
Guest Hedgehunter
We try to avoid digging ,our ferrets come to whistling.I think some people maybe start to dig too soon & should let the ferrets have more time to bolt the rabbits, but each to their own what ever people r happy with, but we all keep learning. Guest gaspode
thats exactly the point hedgehunter...not enough people take the time to learn now theres yer ferret....theres yer box .....get out and do it i still have to dig the odd time ........but give em time and theyll work out fine grouch...grouch.......youngsters nowadays....lol Quote Link to post

Guest Bigbob
i cant believe what im reading in some of these posts , Imaging you have just spent a hard day ferreting a farm then after you leave the farmer looks out and theres rabbits running about the burrows . Christ he would never have you back one of the guys whos chapping at his door week in week out will end up with the ferreting Quote Link to post
woodga 170
my deffinition of a good ferret thats easy one that is hand tame , will bolt rabbits ,but will stay untill dug to then find its next customer and when the set is empty not piss about in the holes ducking back in every time you go to pick it up. Now these are the ferrets i prefer and im lucky enough to have ten of them GOODHUNTING ALL WOODGA  Quote Link to post
