Guest david1976
Living out in the countryside as i do, I am looking to try cooking, making jam/jelly etc with some of the things that grow wild on trees and bushes nearby such as elderberry, rowan, berries etc Can anyone recommend a book to read that has this sort of information in it i.e. what to look for, what time of the year to pick it and what to do with it? I have seen a book on amazon called "food for free" and wondered if anyone had any other suggestions. Cheers.
Jim Grant 4
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall "The River Cottage Cookbook" as a useful chapter on free food. Nice sections on meat and veg too. Check him up on the web for other books he wrote.

Simoman 110
The book you have mentioned in your post, "Food for Free" by Richard Mabley is excellent, Richard was the advisor to Hughs series Cook on the Wild Side.........
