My budget is £300 and because i am only 12 i don't want a heavy. So which one should i get? I was thinking about the ratcatcher. thanks Greg Quote Link to post
Guest buster321c
Get yourself down decent fieldsports shop and try all the rifles in your price range , that way you will see which one feels better for you . They can also advise you on charging accessories (pcp) , co2 as in some of the smk and umerex range or springer . They may also have some decent second hand rifles they can do you a deal with , good luck mate , atb Buster Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
For £300 you can get a new Springer or used PCP, personally I would suggest you stay away from Co2, best plan is still to get down to as many RFD's as you can and see/feel a few....good luck, and don't rush into anything!!! Ratman2 2
hi i am 12 years old and i am looking for an air rifle that i can hunt squirrels, rabbits and pigeons with. I'm sorry but I have to be a bit boring here, I assume you have shooting permission to go hunting your stated prey. I also sincerely hope that you've done your homework on scope zeroing, safe shooting and you know the kill distance of a sub 12ft/lb airgun. I also sincerely hope that you intend to do a LOT of target shooting before you attempt live quarry hunting, I would hope to see at least a thousand pellets through your gun before you go hunting and I would expect to see at least 1" groupings at 25 to 30yds. I'm am also little concerned you're thinking about a Ratcatcher, probably the worst choice for anything other than close up rats. Is there an airgun club near to where you live?? do you know an adult who hunts with airguns?? I welcome you to the sport of hunting with airguns, we need some young blood but please make sure you get some expert help, nearly all shooters are more than pleased to help a newbie. Good luck. SA1Gunner 0
Greg, All of us would express the same concerns as Rob but if you tick all the boxes, I would recommend you consider a BSA Lightning XL Tactical, it's light at around 6.5 lbs, you wouldn't have to worry about filling it up, you could learn with this rifle, then move onto a PCP at a later date, if you wanted to. Just to let you know cheapest shop in the Country to buy a Tactical from is City Air Weapons Lincoln Ltd at £ 227. Take some time and look at the reviews of the rifles you are considering buying, this link is a review of the Xl Tactical http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews111459.html I have just found this aswell, http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/guns/airrifles...fle_by_BSA.html If you can go to a gun shop near you and try holding them to see if they feel right for you and go from there, enjoy the sport, stay safe and Good luck with you choice of rifle. SteveieP 0
At the risk of pointing out the obvious, given your age, consider what the law says on anyone under 14 using an air rifle:- If you are under 14 years old you cannot buy, hire, be given or own an airgun or airgun ammunition. You can however use an airgun if: you are supervised by someone over 21; and you do not shoot beyond the boundaries of where you have permission to shoot etc. Read the pinned section on the law, shoot safe & stay legal.
