scent 509
if its pollack your after then hit the nearest rock venue, pollack are sea fish and are usually caught at sea.Iv never heard of em getting caught in a river unless its an estaury with plenty of salt water in fact i reckon he is having a laugh either that or you are seriously taking the piss Edited October 9, 2008 by scent Quote Link to post
fireman 10,926
Small pollock will come up with the tide mate, but really you want a rock mark.As your on the IOM plenty there, you want a mark over some kelp or seaweed and get yourself a no 2 long shanked hook on a 18"trace to a linkswivel and on the link put a 2oz bomb and spin a sandeel bound on with bait elastic over the top of the kelp/weed.A packet of frozen eels in a flask(to keep them frozen)a pocket with spare traces and a few weights(i did loads of this type of fishing)i used to use spark plugs a garage used to save for me to save on lost weights and just ramble over the rocks mate. mackem 26,771
River pollack?Normally catch them when fishing for pike with sweetcorn But we did once find a wreck on the tyne upriver just past Hexham, kept motoring round and drift fishing over it as the tide pulled us downstream, dropping 7/0 Hokkais weighted with 3lb weights to reach bottom quickly it was no great shakes to get full-house on river pollack once we got past the cod and ling Quote Link to post

kvnmcwebn 0
Ive been fishing for polloack a couple times over the last few sundays. Just off the pier. Been using ragworms which i can get in the estuary. Been out twice and I only got one that was big enough to keep. Ive been putting about 3 hooks at various lengths off a 25gram float and some split shot for weights, loading the hooks up with rag worms, im only using light tackle and rod. I will try the spark plug, but will have to get a bigger float. Speaking about these sea angling floats, what can you use to keep them from slipping up the line? Ive been using a tiny split shot but it always comes off after a while. Quote Link to post

When float fishing to stop your float sliding up the line, put a bead on above the float and tie a stop knot on your line at the depth you wish to fish at. You'll have to purchase some stopknot material, it's like rubber line, pike fishermen use it also. Quote Link to post
