hi all you pesties out there my hole block of flats is crawling with thise little red things that look like ants will call a pest controll officer tomorrow but any advice for now will help lots

Loath as I am to do an identification over the www without so much as a dodgy picture, it sounds like it could be pharaohs ants - which is bad news.

 

Whatever you do, DO NOT attempt to treat them yourself. They have multiple queens, and if the colony is threatened, they 'bud' off to form lots of smaller colonies, making the problem much, much worse.

 

Call in some professionals, and get a proper ID before you do anything else.

If it is Pharaoh ants, they won't be fumigating.

 

The cure is a long term baiting programme - they workers take the bait back to the queens.

 

Are they using 'trails' ? If so, it probably is.

 

There are a number of other species which it could be, so I'd wait for a proper ID. Whatever you do, DO NOT attempt a treatment yourself, and make sure your neighbours don't either.

i got my little russel who stays here with me and the others are at the farm with the greyhounds and the pony

Pharaoh ants are not red but the eye can trick you get a pest control company in but ask for a biologist to visit as the average tech may not know. it may be rogers ant in a flat setup but unless you have voids and piping Pharaoh ants are unlikely. get a expert and take no sh**t this is one of the hardest (not hardest but needing a expert)

i looked them up on wikkipedia looked like them about 2mm long there are 6 flats and everyone has them. i phoned the council today and they said that they did not have the facillities to deal with them and that we had to call someone else i will be on the phone in the morning demanding someone comes to sort it out

i am in a block of flats quite old brick building they dont seem to be in trails they are just bunched up where ever ther is food i have even found them in the fridge and the dogs food the food cupbord absolutly everywhere even the washing basket they neibours have said the same

lol i have just put haemish into bed with his pjs on its a bit crowded but he dont mind lol
