Dog Insurance BEWARE...

Recommended Posts

Ok so heres the details.....Black lab i owned from a pup, insured the day i picked him up with PETPLAN, cost £10 a month. The dog has just turned 8 yrs old and i have only ever claimed once on the insurance and the cost of the claim was approx £150 so nothing major. The other day i recieved a letter from PETPLAN saying my premium was going up to £42 a month!!!!!!Phoned to ask why and they said it was due to his age.....I am really really :censored: off to say the least! All those years i might aswell have paid the money into an account set aside for vets bills. I have cancelled the insurance. can anyone suggest another insurance company?

yeah but what will it be next year and the year after? there comes a time when you have to realise that your being ripped off? if mine went from £10 to £20 then i would still have him insured but £10 to £42 in one go? It might be worth your while enquiring into future increases so you know what to expect. I wish i had asked when i opened the policy because if id of known i would have just kept the money aside myself, 8 yrs at £120 a year thats near enough a grand an i only had £150 back for 1 claim!

agree mate £10 then upped to £42 is a disgrace in a yr . i know what your sayin about after 8yrs havin a grand but you where lucky only to claim £150 and your thinkin you would still have £850 in the bank, but if my mate had of done that he would be about £4000 out of pocket thats how much tesco have paid for his dog, think in hindsight youve a point but if 1 of your dogs had of got a bad injury (im glad it didnt) you could be thinkin "ive spent a grand in the last 8yrs but if i wasnt insured it would of been 4, so ive saved 3 grand".

same thing happend to me had three dogs insured £29 per mounth claimed on one premiums whent up to £50 mounth +i had to pay vet fore addmin £14 this was not coverd by ins so i put £40 per mounth away in savings and now i draw out money from here for injections ,tick pippets and worming tablets and keep a float of £500 wich is only 1 years saving.

Im with tesco just had the renewal forms through , my policy also more than doubled .So went on the net for new quotes and tesco were still the cheapest . some of the companies are charging the same price for one dog what i was paying for 3 :icon_eek: . ive never claimed on my policy and our oldest on it is three and a half , so the dd's been cancelled and ive started a new policy with them still dearer than last years but cheaper than the renewal price.

was going too but now our pack has grown to 10 i think im gonna opt with the bank account option otherwise it would cost a fortune!. the mrs used to work at a vets so she does most of the 'treatment' at home its only major things that they go the vets for.

how you anyway mate?
