Gun Care Question

Recommended Posts

Just got my first shotgun (Lovely Beretta Silver Pigeon III)

and i've got a couple of questions.

I gave it a good clean and oil with my gun cleaning kit and it looks great.

Can I leave the gun in it's slip in the cabinet?

Could i put a VP90 sachet in the slip?

Just seems a bit easier than putting the slip one place and leaving the gun in the cabinet.

Thanks

mate hang your gun slip with your shooting jacket you need that when you go shooting so you grab both at once again never leave your gun in the slip in the cabinet surface rust is a blooming pain in the arss to get rid of and if i had your gun i would caress it every day and name her

Haha :tongue2:

Haven't named her yet - thanks for all the advice.

Will take her out of the slip. The foam support came unstuck when I installed the cabinet so I'll need to restick that in.

I obsessively cleaned it when i got it home. Just ordered some snap caps and some gun grease.

I'll leave the slip somewhere warm and dry.

Thanks all.

Peter

Just a little one when you put your gun in the safe store it barrel down this stops any oil ingresing into your stock also when you get it out the buisness end isnt pointing in your face. barells are faceing the floor

Guys...I am know that I am in the minority here but I do, and always have left ALL my guns in the slip in the cabinet!

It is however, very important, as everyone has said, to make sure gun and slip are perfectly dry before you do this.

If I am out on a damp night the slip is dried for at least 24 hours before going back on the gun.

I have never had any problems but you most certainly will if you do not keep everything perfectly dry!!

if you have a precision made gun its best not to do this as it loosens the action and can create a gap where the breach meats the stock instead you should remove the barrels from the gun and store the barrels separately
