I'v heard of a few greyhound boys feeding creatine (a body supplement) to their dogs but was also told they were prone to muscle cramp.

Creatinine loads muscle cells with water which will give bigger muscles but also dilute the electolytes (KCL) and as KCL is central to muscle contraction and starts to reduce after a few contractions anyway the last thing a dog needs is to have them pre diluted before it even starts especially if it's to run multiple times.

someone came up to me in the street and got talking about my lurcher who i had just got two weeks ago and he suggested steroids and somthing that to me sounds like wizz that makes them run faster...i was quite offended and said i would do it the natural way

I got accused recently of giving my dogs steriods but I don't see why people would, all you are doing is endagering your dog, and acting like a who shouldn't be involved in any thing to do with animals, what are you proving, that you are not good enough to get a dog to perform without the use of drugs. How is it enjoyable to see a dog run when it has steriods in it, its not the dog doing the job, at that point its the steriods doing it, all the other work that you have put into the dog (if you even did) is basically redundant, what is it you don't want to be shown up for the crap owner and trainer that you are so you cheat yourself by doing this?

its stupid the owners have oviesly no time to train the dogs and after they take the dogs off steroids they will reduce to mush they wont have any proper natural built up mussel. plenty road walking would build them up better tho it mite take longer

I've heard recently a tale of somebody who gives their lurchers steroids, they don't compete or look to gain anything financialy from what they do by all accounts they just run a few bunnies so they aren't hurting anybody else I just wondered if anybody else had heard of this practice or what your views are on the subject?

Steroids can be really dangerous. i know in people it has a load of nasty side affects like thinning of blood vessel walls and hemeraging of organs and the brain, as for creotine its not very good either my mate got kidney stones because of it.

my opinion dont do it if you value your dog especially when its a past time gettin a few bunnies.

Personally I don`t think steroids used by humans would have the same effect on dogs.Then again if there are performance enhancers for humans there could easily be for dogs eg marrowbone viagra

Myself I think it would hinder(spelling) a dog as much as it would help it, dogs gain all the muscle mass they require through regular work, theres no need to inject chemicals into them, although I think it would speed up the recovery time of a heavily worked dog???

 

I wouldnt put it past some of the dum fucks on here though!!!!

people might get a shock if they knew how many of the top coursing men of years gone by actually used them

dont know why always thought the use of steroids was more for short explosive bursts of power more than endurance, plus the more muscle mass you carry the harder your heart and lungs have to work to deliver blood to them so that lactic acid doesnt build up, carnt see roids helping a coursing dog perform better more of a hinderance i would think, and for any dog for that matter.

After having a non lurcher on steroids for years hes an eejit im sorry but its true.They kill your dogs kidneys and liver and they only work for a certain time frame then you have to keep increasing the amount which again does the dog no favours not to mention weight game bad temper and agression can affect the vision also not a good trait for a sighthound.He will f**k his dog up well and truely doing this and at the end of the day cant say he has a good dog cos he doesnt know cos hes pumped it full of steroids
