Guest SJM
Aye same here Moll. Lucozade is hardly a class A I was using it as an example to say that I wouldnt dream of giving my dogs anything stronger to enhance their performance in any way. As for stopping seasons for financial gain (greyhounds) or performance (match bitches), I dont agree with that either, let nature take its course, whatever that may be, but then I am a bit old fashioned when it comes to things like that. ETA the bitch in question given the lucozade was 7 years old and was coming to the end of a long hard season of work. If you would get rid of a dog that had served you well just because of that then thats your choice. It worked for me, the bitch is now 8, will be 9 soon, still working away very well indeed Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
I think it's a joke, you see dog in the east running multiple courses on hare, gazelle, in which is the equivilant to our hottest summers and all they get is dried pitta bread and other such scrap. This kind of aided conditioning is surely deteriorating the standards of running dogs here. IMO there are a lot of weak dogs being bred these days that need fussing and mollycoddled get get anything from. Very well said Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
NCC brought dope testing in around the early 90's, and had to decide what was and what could nt be administered. It got to the stage where cold tea could nt be given for fear of disqualification through failing dope testing, in the end IMO all it achieved was made it a more level running ground. Dogs have won major cups here and Eire only to have them stripped for failing dope tests in recent years Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

sighthound1811 6
it does go on.. sad fact..problably a lot more than people know..a few of the greyhound guys have been known to dose the dogs up with anything from roids, speed, cocaine amongst a host of other things..personally i would not give these people the steam off my dogs piss!!! then they wonder why the dog drops dead in the middle of a hard run if your using stuff like this on your dogs then your headin for disaster in my opinion..cheers chris Quote Link to post
Guest Leveller
If I knew 100% that it was true I would expose them but rumours and whispers are exactly that the person who told me isn't an internet user and told me in confidence and I gave them my word to keep quiet about it and that's what I'll do. sandymere 8,263
Some types of steriods are likely to increase muscle mass beyond what is naturally built as a reaction to exercise which may increase initial speed but will be a major drag on stamina and if a dog is to do multiple on the lamp or a few hard courses won't do themselves any favours. Those that just walk their animals round a show ring or race them may get a little improvement for a limited time but the side effects aren't good, ie thining skin, loss of bone mass etc, and will likely shorten a dogs working career. At the end of the day if people were to put a little time into their animals to maximise their natural potential then they probably wouldn't need the artificials. Lucozade I would't call an artificial as it's basically suger water and as such is a natural food for fast twitch muscle fibres and as such can act as a quickly absorbed fuel when stores run low with multiple sprints Quote Link to post
