threbb 0
try the PDSA if cost a issue. then get him insured I don't really have the time for insurance now... im getting him there tommorow.. and if all goes down well ( fingers crossed ) i'll then get insurance for him. Insurance is what keep vet bills up.Nobody heard of it a few years ago.You would have got laughed at but now it seems you have to have like all the other sheep. Get in touch with youre local dogtrack and find a good bone man for the future.By the way if you do go to a vet make sure its a greyhound vet so he can say what its chances of running again are otherwise you could pay out and end up with a cripple.Double wammy in the pocket area. Another good idea is get a good book on greyhounds "CARE OF THE RACING GREYHOUND" IS A GOOD ONE . I would have rested for a day with anti inflamatory tab like ibuprofen to reduce swelling and see how it goes. Ive kept dogs for over 20years and mostly avoided vets, and ive had some fun with the money they would have had off me.good luck

Pignut 4
Next time, and now you've had experience, please don't take 3 days to find out that your dog has broken it's foot. How would you like it? But well done you for getting the dog to the vet, eventually.
MarcusOvDarlo 0
it was 2 days not 3.... well 1 day really as it happened on the night... the vet said he wasnt in pain until he put pressure on his small toe. He's got a broken toe not a broken foot and may need it ampitated if it doesnt heal right... Hopefully it doesnt happen.
Tiff 36
what did the vet do, set the toe or??? Did he give you several options or what? How much time to decide if it has set? I have a dog who smashed her foot running over a manhole type of cover, she had the toe (like a bag of ticktacks) whacked off by the vet, local job in and out in less than an hour. Hasn't slowed her down or inhibited her turning.

Hasn't slowed her down or inhibited her turning. His xray showed that his toe was phisicaly snapped in to 2. So it may need ampitation. The vet didnt give me no options just told me to give him tablets once a day, come back in a weeks time andput a cast sort of thing round his leg. I am going back in a week then i think ( But am not sure ) they will decide to ampitate it or not.

Dawn B 212
Thats actually quite good news, I thought it would be much worse from what you said. With or without the toe, im sure he will be fine.

MarcusOvDarlo 0
Happy to say he's getting on very well now! I'm keeping his " bandage " on for another week, Then I am going to put another bandage on but really padded up just to be on the safe side... Thanks everyone!
