MarcusOvDarlo 0 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Share Posted October 7, 2008 My dog ran into a thin tree why the lamp was off and I thought he might have broke his leg at first by the noise it made and how he was howling. I checked on him in the morning as he was ok on the night and he keeps his back leg ( left ) tucked in... he doesnt cry unless i touch his paw ( this is the same on the front leg ). Any ideas on what i should do? ive petted him a bit and thinking about taking him to the vets... But i want to know if theres any other way because of the vet bill ( it might cost alot ). I'm 14 and i clearly said that i will take him to the vets... but there might be another way. And i wouldnt of posted if i wasnt wanting to help the dog. I have gave a him a pain killer ( for dogs ) for now... and i'll get another one tommorow.. Hopefully he'll be ok. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
annika 0 Posted October 7, 2008 Report Share Posted October 7, 2008 The vets where I take my dog are probably not the cheapest, they charge about £40.00 for a consultation. Fingers crossed everything will be ok when you take him tomorrow but I'd look in to "health insurance" for the future if I was you. You won't be able to get cover quick enough for this injury but at least you'll have peace of mind if he hurts himself again. We have waited a couple of hours up till the next day sometimes to see if they "snap out of it" as far as an injury goes, but even when money was sqqqquuuuueeeeaaaakkkkkkyyyy tight, we just HAD to take the dog in if it needed it. While you are learning it is best to err on the side of caution, I won't insult you by saying "you are young, the old know better." That's a bunch of crap, I know a lot of young folks who know way more than the average old dude. BUT listen to us old ones are saying now. It is better to KNOW what is wrong rather than let the poor dog suffer. If it is broke, and it will be too much for you to be able to afford to repair him, it is better to put the dog to sleep. Having him suffer for the last day really is not fair. If money is an issue, and if you have a good relationship with your vet, that will go a long way towards maybe being able to pay the consultation fee in bits (don't miss even one single payment!). Only offer to pay in arrangements that you KNOW you can, without fail. Offer to help out around the place, if you ferret/shoot offer free pest control (if the vet has property or a horse in boarding) fresh rabbit for the pot, pick up dog shit in their kennels or trash from their carpark, help repaint the building, ... many people are willing to help out the keen and hardworking POLITE young people. The suggestion about the pet insurance is a good one, check out the premiums and consider that. If the monthly cost is too much for you (or your family) to bear, consider trying to find the dog a good home. Good luck and please let us know how the dog is.
