Keeps 403
We had our first proper ferreting trip this season this morning, a beautiful crisp autumn morning, the perfect weather for ferreting  Set off a bit earlier than normal as we had arranged to meet up with the keeper who said he had a new place to show us. Once we got there we set off for the new farm, and were shown to a fairly steep strip of woodland, that hadnt been touched for a good while, bar a gun club that no longer go there. There was a fishing pond at the bottom of the wooded bank, and I thought to myself sooner or later Indie would end up in it either accidentally or on purpose  he really loves the water, on this occasion though, he managed to keep out of it The keeper left us and said he would call in and let the farmer know where we were... We had a promising start, both dogs and ferrets seemed on form, considering it was the start of the season and they'd had a long rest. After about a hour, we'd moved along the strip leaving rabbits dotted here and there hanging on the fence, when someone started to make their way towards us from the fishing lakes with a very purposeful stride At first I thought it might be one of the fisherman just coming along for a chat, but looking at his face and the way he was steaming towards us it was very obviously not a friendly visit It was in fact the farmer and owner of the fishing pond. He asked us what we were doing "erm ferreting" I said stood holding a ferret in my hand  He went on to say we didnt have permission to be on there a bit of a "get orf my land" sort of talk followed After straightening things out a bit and I offered him my phone to ring the keeper, he calmed down a bit and ended up leaving quite happy that we would continue to remove the rabbits from his land - pheww  We had a good few hours out, a steady day without much waiting around for something to happen. A few pics from today - some of the dogs and some showing the land we worked today. todays ferrets indie was on fire today :11: Thoroughly enjoyed being back out again  Quote Link to post
