dog for retrieving?

im looking at a new family pet but it has to earn it's keep as do the ferrets im looking for a dog to take when im shooting pigeons and bunnys and things of a similar size, i was thinking a cocker spaniel any other ideas?

Hi mate if its retrieving you want id go for a lab. a cocker will retrive all day but for a steady dog in a hide or at a set id have a lab

But if you want style get a golden retreiver

thanks guys i think ill be doing the retrieving myself as i have a 2 bed flat and garden not really suitable for a lab.

or i might just take the missus lol

why not think about a sprocker? the brains of a cocker but teh agility and speed of the springer......

 

THATS whats my pals hubby has....he had a lab and cockers and springers...now he has the sprockers

ave a sprocker he is just over a year old and a great wee dog i would have another in a min

You want something which will sit patiently at your side whilst your shooting pigeons sprocker cocker or ess aint the dog for you ..Labrador retriever...

in fairness spaniels are harder to train steadiness-wise but not impossible. the one im workin with at the minute is as steady as my retriever.

I'd go for a Labrador, especally if it's your first gundog

 

who knows you may get a lab that retrieves more than one bird at once!!!

 

 

 

(i know it's frowned upon in the field trail and gundog community but i thought it was a good shot anyway lol)
