Hi mate if its retrieving you want id go for a lab. a cocker will retrive all day but for a steady dog in a hide or at a set id have a lab only my opinion tho cheers fraser Quote Link to post

Regards Steve in fairness spaniels are harder to train steadiness-wise but not impossible. the one im workin with at the minute is as steady as my retriever. Quote Link to post
mally 832 Posted October 9, 2008 Report Share Posted October 9, 2008 I'd go for a Labrador, especally if it's your first gundog who knows you may get a lab that retrieves more than one bird at once!!! (i know it's frowned upon in the field trail and gundog community but i thought it was a good shot anyway lol) Quote Link to post
