Matt 160
I think Mr JBS Wildlife is doing a bit of fishing here, so I'll give two sets of answers. If I was your average 'Mr Joe Smith' member of the public, I'd do the following, in the following order: 1. Ignore the problem until I went into the loft to find the item I wanted damaged (or investigated the reason for the 'scratching' noises my wife keeps nagging about) 2. Go to my local DIY store and buy some 'humane' traps (the wife doesn't like me killing things), and set them just inside the loft hatch using cheese as the bait. 3. After checking the traps a couple of times loose interest, and tolerate the nagging (see item 1) 4. Swallow my pride and phone the council, only to be told that because I work full time, claim no benefits, and have no kids, I've got to pay for their 'expert' to come to my house and do what I should have been able to do for myself. 5. Pretend I have no idea who set the 'humane' trap retrieved by the council 'expert', which contains a very dead mouse. As a fully trained professional, I'd do the following: 1. Identify the pest 2. Establish the extent of the infestation 3. Try and locate the source of the infestation 4. Eliminate the pest infestation 5. Make recommendations about conditions which are conducive to re-infestation 6. Carry out any proofing which is within my capabilities to help prevent future infestation, and recommend further works which are beyond my capabilities. Does that answer the original question? Now for another. Why do people come on here to ask pointless questions? Is it to boost their ego by showing everyone how clever they are? Quote Link to post
Guest jbswildlife
Im not running a public survey, but a survey on thinking. I'm trying to put a action plan together for pest control for proactive thinking, I'm Faced daily with incorrect surveys and non target species being at risk. In the case of mice in the attic its an easy thing to control them, but was look to see in this topic who would have done something dangerous to other species that may have been also in the attic without them knowing etc bats. Ive Had people catch pine martins thinking their mink eg. with my ferrets i both purse and longnet, make my own purse nets and go out at any given moment. Quote Link to post
Matt 160
I'm trying to put a action plan together for pest control for proactive thinking Why? Is this research for your book? If so, I'd have thought this was the wrong place to ask. I'm Faced daily with incorrect surveys and non target species being at risk Me too; which is why I always advise people who post on here with (genuine) pest problems to employ the services of a properly trained and qualified professional. Are you qualified? but was look to see in this topic who would have done something dangerous to other species that may have been also in the attic without them knowing etc bats As I thought then. You wanted someone to post something which would make you look knowledgable. i both purse and longnet, make my own purse nets and go out at any given moment There must be thousands of householders who can rest easy knowing that if they think they have mice, you will pop along with your ferrets and purse nets and sort it out for them. Matt 160
I'm surprised that someone who has allegedly written a book about pest control cannot tell us either the reason for the question, or how he would deal with the problem. But then, perhaps I'm not..... Quote Link to post
Guest jbswildlife
if you must know i'm working with bats the now and have come to think of infestations I have deal't with in the past. or is that not enought info Quote Link to post

Aren't we all? That still doesn't tell anyone why you are asking the question, or how you would deal with it... Or is just another one of 'those' threads????? Perhaps your super dooper rabbit killing sonic device is also going to work on mice? Quote Link to post
