INJURED LURCHER-LOOSE NE Area

Recommended Posts

Crossposting info from Lurcher Link

my pal spotted a injured dog in the distance in the middle of a big field..

The dog was badly injured with a huge open wound on it's side as well as its back leg, it also had a big open wound on its neck and was limping on its front foot..

.....the 2 of us desperately tried to catch the dog but it would not come anywhere near us..we chased it for about 1/2 hour across 3 big fields and lost it in a big wood..

SO IF THERE'S ANYONE FROM THE WINGATE AREA IN THE NORTH EAST THAT HAS LOST A BLACKISH LURCHER WITH A LOT OF GREYHOUND IN IT (IT HAD A WHITE BLAZE ON IT'S CHEST) GET UP THERE IN THE BIG WOOD NEAR THE MAIN ROAD BECAUSE THAT DOG NEEDS URGENT VETERINARY ATTENTION..

Know a lot of you guys are up this neck of the woods, hope it's not one of your dogs but please check it out- if you look on lurcher link there's a hazy pic.

I'm probably teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here: BUT in the case of a dog that has been running loose for more than 24 hours, it is absolutely useless to chase them: dogs go feral within a relatively short space of time and even if the dog is a much loved animal, it won't even respond to its owner once it has gone into wild fleeing mode.

If the owner can be found and they have another dog, one that the lost dog will recognise, then sometimes that dog can be persuaded to come in when it sees the other dog having fun with the owner.

The only other solution is to leave meat out laced with animal tranquillisers, and someone watching 24/7 to be ready to catch up the dog when it becomes dopey. I once took on a dog that had consumed enough ACPs to tranquilise a horse, and it still managed to get up and run: luckily straight into a net that had been placed across its escape route. Even then the dog fought tooth and nail to escape.

24 hous later the dog had reverted back to being a domestic animal and pleased to have human attention!

Hope this poor dog is found soon.

Agree with waste of time chasing it, daft as it may sound we've caught more than one by sitting out with a disposable bbq & pk of burgers. ACP's are only ok if you have enough people to see exactly where it goes. Dangerous otherwise as it could go down anywhere & not been found, also they can go into the bloodstream to fast if dog already agitated & cause heart failure.

Until it's been plotted & a routine established it would be difficult to use a trap- we have one lurcher size if needed that can be used - need to pm if ever needed. I'm no expert but learnt a thing or two recently about catching ferel dogs & using traps :whistling:

Was just hoping it wasnt one of the dogs belonging to you guys- but also you could put word about & maybe locate who's it was. Lot of peeps walking about fields for one reason or another lately

Either way hope it's found soon before it's too late

Copied over from Doglost Forum- not on general view

please would you find out from the lads who saw him how much white he has on him? Someone on Lurcherlink forum suggested Ziggy as a possible and emailed ziggysmum. I left her a message as although she is now back online she rarely logs on, and she is now aware. She thinks it is unlikely to be him but is going up there tomorrow to see if she can see him, whoever he is, and help to bring him in. She is experienced with lurchers and won't do anything to scare him.

Ziggy has a white chest blaze going down to a V and then opening out to a white belly. The important thing is that he has white socks on all paws, with a longer sock on the front offside, also a white tail tip.

Anyone able to advise if this dog had any white
