thehunter69 1
Hi all, I could'nt understand my ferrets the other day. I shot a small to medium bunny on saturday and on sunday i put the rabbit in the ferret cage and the bloody ferrets just pushed it about, and kept putting there heeds inside the rabbit, but after a while there still never started eating it so i skinned the bunny and put it back in to see if this would make any difference which it never apart from they dragged it from the bottom or the cage floor upstairs and left it outside the sleeping box, after 2/3 hrs i looked to see how much was left and the little buggers left the whole think not even a nibble ( i think i have 2 ferrets that are veggies ) ....anyboby else had the same bother.....the last time i feed them rabbit i chopped it all up and placed it in a small bowl....so i no they like to eat it .. Matt i have been feeding them on dry food, liver and eggs and a drop of milk... yeap.. i've seen this... its called Lazy Ferret Syndrome and comes from havin a cushy life LOL if you wanna take the time you can build it up gradually...give less kibble.. make chunks bigger when feeding until they get the hang of it... toss in half a rabbit or even a quarter at a time so there is less waste if they dont eat it before it goes off... if you wanna just make em eat.. leave it in whole.. they WILL eat eventually.... though some ferrets are as stubborn as their owners..... Kay 3,709
can a ferret live on ONLY meat no dry food. would it be better and recomended Well ferrets managed on meat before dry food was invented as did dogs , there obviously something in dry food that makes them want to eat it to excess, i have used every brand going and they treat all brands the same, i had one hob who became grossly overweight due to the fact he had his head in the food constantly I think theres a place for dry food but i now believe it shouldnt be fed as a staple , offered but not as there only food source, so if you ask me a small amount of drys fine but i would feed meat overall Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
jazz they need as much meat as you can get them. you can never get too much and too little dry. ATB will.f11 Quote Link to post
fireman 10,869
Monosudium glutinate (spelling?) makes sh*ite taste nice, thats why folks eat the crap out of fast food out lets and chinkies.Feeding animals meat also cuts down on the amount of poo they produce, less crap in it they cannot digest. Also ferrets are ment to have dark solid as such poo's not the loose ones dry food produce, same as dogs.If people can't feed a MEAT EATING animal meat then they shouldn't bother having them in the first place, feeding dry crap because it's easier for you is no excuse(i don't aim that at anyone in particular),with it being cooler now i would cut up the rabbit and cut out the dry and leave them to it,they'll come round.
