Mr_Logic 5
Right then, I'm off to the States in a few days' time ( :D) and plan to pick up a scope while I'm there. Anyone got any suggestions? It's going on my 223 to be used day/night at pretty much anything that needs to be shot. So versatility is key. I don't want weird and wonderful reticles - mildot's about as cluttered as I want. I am thinking 3-9, 2.5-10, 4-12 type magnification, rarely use any more. Important bit is clear, bright optics so I can use the lamp out to 250 yards, reliable adjustments. Don't want too much weight either as my little CZ currently weighs sod all and I'd like to keep it that way. Budget is about £250-maybe £300 so I figure about $500 as my top whack. Currently Bushnell 4200, Leupold VXIII or maybe a Burris or a Nikon are my thoughts. Answers on a postcard please Quote Link to post

If you want to have a look through it and are anywhere near Connemara you're more than welcome to visit. I've not used it much, it's excellent in daytime, at night I an so far unconvinced BUT it could have been the lamp interfering with it. Quote Link to post

Guest JohnGalway
I didn't like it's performance under the lamp. I thought it was less than what it should have been, but the set up wasn't ideal that night and I've not had the chance to use it since so take the above with a huge grain of salt. As I said, in daylight it's excellent, aside from slightly fussy eye relief but I couldn't fault the glass, the tracking and it kept POI perfectly. I'd need to give it a proper go at night to be able to reccomend it without any doubts. Besides the night issue, it's a lovely compact scope. Quote Link to post
cbw 4
I use the Zeiss 6.5-20*50 conquest and recommend it highly however, 2 things you need to be aware of, It is quite heavy and it requires a special mount that I could not get locally. Photo in the 'your rifles' section Mr L, if you are local you are more than welcome to have a look through it. CBW Edited October 5, 2008 by cbw Quote Link to post
rutland12 0
I have a conquest 6.5x20x50 which I got in the USA. I have this mounted on my CZ American HMR with standard mounts and it shoots fine. Long range shots may require a special mount. Speak to man at the following website. He was very helpfull and will post to the UK. http://www.theriflescopestore.com/zeisssco...CFQs2QwodkVo-Eg Edited October 7, 2008 by rutland12 Quote Link to post
cbw 4
Hi R12, Mine also works ok on standard mounts, however I have to wind the elevation very near to max and my gunsmith said this was far from ideal and I should buy the correct mount. (Any ideas where to purchase) Great scope with lovely crisp optics and a pleasure to use at dusk. (Not used yet for lamping) CBW Quote Link to post

cbw 4
Hi Jamie, I know for most people it would be too large for an Anshcutz .22lr, however I damaged my Right eye as a child and find the larger magnification very beneficial especialy when shooting targets. Most of my rabbit shooting is done at yards so this is my usual zero and I tend to use it on 12* magnification. I also enjoy some target work and set the targets at 120yrds for which I use the 20* mag. I spent as much money as the wife would let me get away with!!! (she does not actually know the full cost) I wanted a very accurate rifle hence the Anschutz I put my webley airifle sight on it and it was just awful so following advice I went for the zeiss scope and am thrilled with it.
