.Joe 0
I have just got a call from my local farmer saying he has a deer on his property that is severely ill and had an obvious broken leg...can i come and deal with it? I dont want to as i only have a shotgun cert. My friend who is licensed by the police to have a humane kill handgun is busy and i cant get hold of him. From what the farmer has said, you can get right up and stand and touch him, but he doesnt look as though he is going to die anytime soon... What are my options. THey've spoken to the vet and he wont come out for some reason... Cheers .Joe Quote Link to post

.Joe 0
According to the British Deer Society its perfectly legal to use a shotgun with correct load at a distance of 10m or less....do i go ahead and do it? Quote Link to post
Guest rexdigger
if the deer is in distress and you are genuinly bothered about its welfare you wouldnt have put this post up just go and shoot and have done with it all you are doing by putting this up is prolonging its agony :wallbash: Quote Link to post
ssssh1forthepot 0
Go put it out of its misery, soon as you can! Quote Link to post
.Joe 0
I was wanting to do the legal thing, not get myself in shit for it....but its done now. It is perfectly legal for the use of a smooth bore weapon to be used in the detruction of injured deer. Quote Link to post
Guest rexdigger
no one would have known about the legal aspect if you hadnt posted it up on here imo Quote Link to post
STORMFORCE 0
who cares about the legallity of it, the animal was suffering just shoot it .in the end of the day no ones going to worry it you were helping an injured/distressed animal. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
injured/distressed animal = deal with it NOW. The law won't worry you for that one. Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
im sure it state on the open conditions of a fac cert that you can humanely kill animals, or for the wellbeing of animals or something on that lines Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Unless humane dispatch is on fac, it can only be done with a shotgun. (Told that yesterday by firearms trainer) Quote Link to post
green oval 8
Unless humane dispatch is on fac, it can only be done with a shotgun. (Told that yesterday by firearms trainer) Who cares, deal with animal first, deal with the rest later. Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Agree: "Who cares, deal with animal first, deal with the rest later." Was rather surprised that it could go against any law. Doubt anyone would challenge a humane destruction with anything suitable. Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
is humane dispatch a special conditon i thought all open certs had it?? Quote Link to post
.Joe 0
I do agree with that completely. The animal was delt with as quickly as possible, i was just wondering about the legalities of it aswell. Turns out that it is legal to do so using a shotgun if the animal is distressed or injured. Link to show where i got the information from... http://www.bds.org.uk/use_of_shot_guns.html also rang basc deer department. .Joe Quote Link to post
