these strong type whippets

dog or bitch,

There are many lines that have the 'strong' type dog but most of these lines are breed for the purpose (working). Ive rarely seen show or racing whippets conforming to this type, and some of the racing whippets would be blown over in a breeze. Good strength of bone and sure footedness is a must.

I think what 'makes' a strong dog above all is strenght of mind and character which i believe is instilled in them in the first 6-10 months of their lives. Guttlesssness and no heart will get you nowhere even if your a machine.

good strong jaw on em

I can't say I'm into playing tug of war with a rabbit and a whippet mate. My bitch retrieve's rabbits live to hand and she's got a very strong jaw. I like to eat what my dogs catch

I owned a non ped racing whippet, from national champ parents who raced at a track at a local(ish) miners welfare club.

he was strong and keen on rabbits, He wasnt the brightest but I trained him to a acceptable level for working.

he was an exellent ferreting dog due to his acceleration but lacked stamina for hares. The only problem was that he was too quick, usually greatly over-running quarry when it turned and got himself injured a lot hitting fences/gates etc..

Mally thats a fine looking animal mate,a credit to you  What sort of feeding/training regime do you have her on,ive never seen a whippet bitch heavily muscled.

I feed her raw lamb and beta greyhound, she gets 2 x 2 miles a day road walking and some free running. As well as a couple of nights a week lamping. I started ferreting last weekend so we'll be out a couple of days a week from now on.

I didn't start working her proper until after her first season as she was a little slow maturing physically. She's doing well on the lamp and if her first time out ferreting is anything to go by she'll earn her keep.. She's a really steady laid back bitch a real pleasure to be out with.
