I'll add my ten pence worth robert.

A strong 'type' whippet shouldn't exist IMO. A whippet type should merely be a true to conformation whippet, nothing else.

However, a strong whippet does exist. There are a few lines that spring to mind but the ones mentioned are not necessarily in keeping with your question. I have seen some very game, very fast MB dogs, but a few quite small ones with the hearts of lions. I have also seen some big strong, great looking whippets with the hearts of mice.

Your Prince is an example of a strong whippet. My Merlin might have been if he managed to keep his strength up and illness at bay. My Lewis is a very fast and game whippet but is too light to be called a strong whippet.

Matt Slavin breeds a strong line and the Nimrodel pups we got from Fallswater have that strong look about them.

A strong whippet IMO:

Should reach at least 21" and 35 lbs for a dog, 19" and 28 lbs for a bitch.

Should have a strong head and good bite. Should have strong shoulders and back. A broad chest, not necessarily deep and a broad but lengthy muscular neck.

Should have good bone and tight high feet. The shoulders should laid slightly back. It should catch your eye and move well with front feet thrown forward.

It should be capable of holding down or dragging down largish prey and catching, carrying and jumping with smaller prey.

It should be a capable jumper and confident enough to trust your commands to jump.

Heres a couple of 2 of mine aged about 1 year. They catch day and night, not any great amount but its still early days for them. The brindle cant jump for toffee but he can really move. The black one is always ill and will die early with autoimmune but I still run him because he loves it and he wouldn't have anything else.

very good points there dave i belive every one that has a big whippet 22 23 or more is classed as a strong whippet these are more likeing to be called small greyhounds as they really are no longer whippet bigger is not alway better its hi they are made up

to me a strong whippet must have really good bone witch a good few of these strong whippets do not have

a strong jaw is a must and most lack this also

a good broad loin toped of with a long musculer neck

plenty of breath about the head and jaw as most whippets have long thin muzzles

the broad chest is said to be a fult but i like this

good strong feet is a must

weight round 30lb for a bitch and up to 40lb for a dog height of a max of 21 for a bitch and 22 for a dog

as every one knows this is only my views and this to me does not make a good working whippet it just tell you what i think a strong whippet is

as for the perfact worker they come in all shapes and size if only looks done the killing it would be a lot easyer

to me there is no perfact lines all throw good and bad but i have hi hope for the fallswater breed dog
