cyclonebri1 8
Hi, Last time around I used winchester sub .22s almost exclusively + some stingers. Every now and again you got a batch of winchesters that where anything from super sonic to ok to only just clearing the barrel. Are they any better now, (6 years later), or whats reckoned the best/cost effective now? Also I had a Ruger 77/22 synth/stainless before, loved it and no problems apart from mould staining the Nylon stock. Considering the same again, but do they do the stainless gun with the fancy laminated stock? Off for a few days in the sun but any advise received when I get back would be appreciated, paperwork should hopefully be close by then too, Cheers, Bri Quote Link to post
Finkley 1
Hi Bri, All you can really say about the Winchesters is that they are cheap and transfer their energy well into the target. They're not the most consitent load as you mention though. You still get the occasional pop as one goes supersonic and 100 yard groups are hardly tight. I still use Winnies though as they're 30% cheaper than the more consitent Eleys and I've still had reasonable practical accuracy from them in the field. Out to about 75 yards they're good enough for consistent head shots on rabbits. Hope this helps you in some way, Cheers Steve Edited October 4, 2008 by Finkley Quote Link to post
drut 9
Having also tried CCI,Eley & Remington in my CZ452, Winchesters are my favourite: I can get them for£9.50 less @500 than Eley & although not quite as accurate they hit hard & I find them more effective for chest shooting rabbits.Although I can buy Remingtons for£20.00@ 500 locally & find them accurate( I know others don't ) I find they have'nt got the impact of Eley or Winchester on rabbits. I did have problems with one batch of Winchesters in that they were sticking in chamber. Regards: Duncan Quote Link to post

If you can find any try a box of Magtech 40g HP Subs as well, cheapest of the lot and plenty accurate enough for field work! Quote Link to post
drut 9
http://www.rimfiremagic.co.uk/new_firearms.html SYSS only list stainless with synthetic stock but they are the people who can probably answer your query,be worth giving them a ring. Quote Link to post
