brock 11
depends if your going to run them on n.g.r.c or flap them.either way if you do it the right way it can be a expensive hobby if your not having any winners, but as i found out a few years ago pretty addictive sport
davesmithgreyhounds 0
I run the biggest uk greyhound forum with over 5000 members www.greyhoundscene.co.uk if you take a look there you will get an idea, you have 2 choices, you can either flap,or race under ngrc rules. As you live in the south there are no flaps so you will need to race ngrc,i am in the process of getting new kennels that come up to the required standard, with laying a base its costing me almost £4000. To get a racer can be anything from free to £50,000+ if you are interested feel free to contact me for help.
Trap1 27
aprox estimated of cost to race greyhounds Kennels NGRC standard for 5 - 10 dogs aprox £4000 - £5000 NGRC red tape £100 Scales £300 Porta Mag £ 350 Ultra sound / laser/faradic machine aprox £400 Suitable van+ cages £ 2000 + Leads, coats, bowls & first aid £ 200 any spare time you used to have Your hair £200 vet/ostiopath bills per dog per year aprox After all this you then have to buy a dog ( last week a nice unraced pup did 28.94 around Newcastle and the owner has supposed to have refused £40,000 for it ) Hope this helps........ Dawn B 212
Owning a racer is something I am keen on, can anyone shed any light on the cost of keeping a dog in training?
Dawn B 212
Really is that all? I charge a lot more than that for boarding one a day! I assume vet fees are on top, likewise entry fees etc?
Trap1 27
Yes vet fees would be on top but no entry fees NGRC they pay you to run your dogs. Your bill a Sunderland or newcastle would be around 30 x 6 = £180 if your dog runs 4 times in a month and wins 1 from 4 = 3 x £20 apperance + 1 win at an average of £120 = £180, so basicly if you have 1 win from 4 it costs you nothing. Not all tracks have prize money as high as Sunderland & newcastle as they are bookmaker owned.
