barkin 0
hello chaps,I hope someone can help shed some light on a problem iam having with my ruger10/22 carbine.Ive owned the gun for 6yrs,bought it used from local gunshop and shot elys through it from the day i bought it.Over the last couple off weeks ive noticed ive missing shots that i shouldnt really be missing,so ive stripped gun down, gave it really good clean and gone out to set up.[should be as simple as that].Now i cant get no grouping at all,NOTHING!!!.Ive swopped the scope of my .223 and tryed that,NOTHING.Swopped the silencer,NOTHING.Even tryed different ammo,NOTHING.As a last resort ive even tryed to see if i can get some kind of grouping without silencer on,NOTHING. SORRY TO RANT ON BUT ITS DOING MY HEAD IN.Could the rifling be knackered or am i missing something else to try?.Any advice would greatly appreciated. Quote Link to post
richie 1
whats the condition of the crown like..... ? Quote Link to post
bumble 2
If you`ve cleaned it, then it may take a few shots to get it on song again. Rf`s dont take readily to a lot of cleaning. My rem 597, i clean the receiver so it cycles but rarely clean the bore. Doesnt need it. Quote Link to post
barkin 0
The crown looks fine, bullets feeding in smoothly plus approx 250 bullets through since its been cleaned. Its never lost its accuracy before when cleaned before,10-20 shots and its always been bangon. Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
Is the metal work and woodwork tight together, i.e no movement between action and stock. 'bedded'. Matt Quote Link to post
richie 1
i have 2 ruger 10/22T & there bang-on... the only problem i had with one of them was the accuracy which turned out to be the barrel, i bought one of them 2nd hand of a bloke that chopped the barrel down to 14" & screw cut... i was getting 2" groups bench resting at 25yards " no wonder he sold it " :wankerzo4: ! ... anyway, as soon as i got it screw cut & re-crowned it was shot through the same hole each time whilst bench resting.. is yours a T model or the basic model ? also have you tested the rifle to see if any thing is loose ? barrel, stock , moderator ??? bumble 2
Mod loose? it happens. Otherwise, is your scope secure. Just looked at your original post: mod;check;scope, check. Is the barrel secure to the receiver. Edited October 1, 2008 by bumble Quote Link to post

Its the basic model mate and ive checked and double checked for anything coming loose. Quote Link to post
bumble 2
Barrel touching the stock along its length. That will throw bullets all over. Quote Link to post
richie 1
dont take this the wrong way, but have you let someone else try shooting it ? also what conditions did you test it in ? free hand, bench rest ? failing that, i aint got a clue then ! one thing, ive never rated those basic rugers, best going for a heavy barrel.. barrym3 11
i personally would take it to your local gunshop and let them check it out . Did you use any cleaning solvent down the barrel Quote Link to post
Country Life 0
To much solvent down the barrel could ruin it, or it could be the possability of a round stuck in the barrel not noticed and cleard with another round, this will in fact damage the barrel and give you the problem you are now facing. when cleaning the barrel did you notice that the pressure aplied was eaven as you pushed the cleaning rod through? a bore snake will not give you any tell tail signs of ware, if you felt that it was a jerky movement as you pushed the rod through I would say that the barrel is damaged. maybe a new barrel. Given the cost, I would sugest a new rifle, but tke it to your Gun Dealer and have him check it out, he may charge you though but its better for peace of mind to have it done by a profesional.. Good Luck.. John Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Barrel touching the stock along its length. That will throw bullets all over. The bog standard 10/22 is not a free floating barrel (neither is the 10/22T actually) by design, so I doubt it's that. Many rimfires aren't - my CZ 452 isn't and that's bloody accurate!
