Meerihunter 7
my second x bedlington greyhound was a good guard, not just for the property,i knew when we wur out it would be hard for certain people to get hold of me iv never had another dog like him. He was a good dog in many ways, not a dog to suffer fools. It was the noise he made when he was pissed off with something or someone. I remember when that Thompson lad pissed out his head thought it would be funny to set his German Shepherd on your dogs, big mistake. My first Saluki would take down anything man or beast around the house or motor and he was serious and would follow through. You were about the only other person I knew he would be ok with. He use to fly at people stood at the full length double glazed doors right at face height, just as well they were double glazed. He knocked crap out a local drug dealers Akita that attack one of my bitches. and would growl and warn anyone that came into my room when I was sleeping. My current Saluki bitch and the pup I bred out her are also highly protective especially around the house and motor. Quote Link to post

sighthound1811 6
my wee saluki lurcher has developed an overwhelming bond with my young son an is starting to get a bit funny with people he doesn't know even going near him..an my boy got a hold of the phone when he was a year old an dialled 999,we only knew when we heard the growling coming from the front garden an looked out to see our greyhound hanging off a policeman with the other one wi his bat out shouting"call off your dog" so i've no doubt if you came into my property uninvited you would be leaving with more than a few bite marks Quote Link to post

valentino 0
just to add though.....as much as its nice to think your dog is protecting and wont be stolen or will 'back up' his bark he probably will break if the pressure is put on him,......just because your lurcher is 'going mental' behind a gate or in the kennel doesnt mean he is a guard dog...yes alot of people may be put off etc but there is a big difference between a guard dog......and a lurcher that 'barks'..... valentino Quote Link to post
dogman89 0
id like to think that if i was out and someone came on to me me my lurcher would protect me, but hes still only young at the moment but im the only person hes really used to being handled by even though he sees other people Quote Link to post

And have no dought if we was out and anything was to kick off she would attack.. was out one nite last week and bloke came towards us on small track and she started growling and making herself known. And when first had her seen off a bloke on bk fence when just her and kids in garden..."went fookin mental" Edited October 2, 2008 by dexie Quote Link to post
