labsnlurchers 39
luck has nothing to do with it mate. thats like saying running your dogs is just a case of find the quarry, point the lamp, slip the dog and if its lucky it will catch. i do both, i have 10 dogs, 8 of which are lurchers and i have 4 air rifles, pest control is my business and my hobby. shooting requires skill and lamping requires skill (both human and canine!) thats if the results are to be effective. distance must be judged accurately when shooting and you need to know how far to aim above or below, wind needs to be accounted for and depending on the strength of wind you need to aim left or right. there is enjoyment to be had in both passtimes but as you say its a case of each to their own. atb LNL
ChrisJones 7,975
ive done a bit of shooting mainly as a quick and easy way of pest control on me farm but i dont get the fun in it for a sport. now i beleive in each to there own but i see shooting as point, aim and if your lucky what your shooting is dead before it knows what hit it. im not after a slagging match just would like to know what enjoyment the shooters out there get out of shooting and why they prefere to shoot. Alot depends on what you shoot but for many people, myself included, it's the all the fieldcraft and prep work that comes before pulling the trigger. I want to be good enough to get really close to what I'm after and that is the sport. It feels the same way for me as it does when you slip your dog, or you here the thump in the ground.
