Wow What a Day

It all started at 10 am when I arrived a Leeds castle (in Kent not Leeds). O met my Hawking instructor mark at the gat and we made our way to his office where I received a glass of campaign, we had a quick chat and signed the disclaimers and the like and we where off. To start the day I was given a tour of all the birds with a short bit about them add as we walked, then it was flying time to start with we took the eagle owl out. What a funny little chap he was, he sort of plodded along behind us and kept flying on to my glove ever so often.

Then we took the barn owl out for a walk and again it was a case of us walking and the owl flying around from tree to tree post to post and me calling him back every so often to the glove.

Then we flew the vulture and for an ugly bird it was awesome to watch him fly. With his 4ft wing span and very little effort. it was now lunch time and I was off to the restaurant form for home made fish and chips and very nice it was too.

After lunch we took the Harris hawk for a walk and to see if we could find a rabbit or something to get his claws into what a magnificent bird and one I will 100% be get in the future.

By this time it had started to rain so we waited in the office for a while and talked once it had finished we flew the Peregrine falcon fastest animal in the world recorded at

204 mph this was the end to my day

What I think made this even more enjoyable was the surroundings I was doing it in.

Nice one Fergie, glad you are doing it the right way.

I have been doing voluntary work at my local bird of prey centre for almost 2 years now. Only now do i feel comfortable with owing a bird of my own.

Its a great way of learning the good and bad points of husbundry.

Great to fly a bird for the day, but remember that birds of prey live for a very long time, anything upto 18 to 20 years in the case of a Harris Hawk.

Anyway, good luck in the future..
