G'Day im from Australia have a very energetic hob and would like to give him a go at ferreting. The intention was when i got him to get him into this, it is now the begining of summer, so i have to wait for next winter to i can really take him out (it's to hot really). Anyway i would just like to know some of the equipment and what methods you use to train your ferret to bolt rabbits.

Thanks.

firstly get a large ball of cotton wool and pin it to the rear of your jeans, let the ferret out in the garden, every time he come's near you, run away shouting "whats up doc"

remember to feed him lots of carrots, so he can see in those dark warrens :whistling:

errrrmmm...generally a rabbit warren and some nets...

no training necessary for ferrets, although if you want you can always give them some piping to run about in.

Don't forget a ferret locator ,some nets and some holes, you shouldn't need to train it as its instincts is to hunt anyway,

thanks fellas.... for takin the micky outa me.

i was told it is instinct. I just kinda wanna get him ready. pipes would be alright i suppose.

When you actually come to work him try a small bury where you know there are plenty of rabbits at home and his nose should do the rest, sometimes it takes a while before they become a class working animal so be patient. A locator is a must in my opinion so good luck anyway let us know how you get on and a few picture's would be great.
