richard25 0
You should try the cough medicine first to see if that has the desired effect otherwise you could try adding probiotics to your dogs food as its better than using antibiotics ( i think personally as they dont kill the good bacteria like antis, but as your dog allready has the kc it may end up having to have the antis now anyway & you may just have to wait the five weeks unfortunetly but better to be safe than sorry. ( Probiotics has been magic for my dogs & it seems to help with most problems they have ) i add it as a supplement powder to there food & when my sisters dog caught kennel cough my dogs were with her dog everyday & one day i think they coughed for an hour or so & i never had to do anything unlike my sister who ended up having to take her dog to the vets lol Now ever since her dogs have had probiotics supplemented to there diet ( well i did try & tell her in the beginning lol ) Good Luck

sandymere 8,263
Treat it like you would treat a child with a cold ie warm, dry, well hydrated and rested to alow the pups imune system to deal with the virus. If it's not improving after a few days then back to the vets to see if antibiotics are reqd. Simple linctus type cough mixtures are probably safest as the don't contain any other medicatios like codeine or paracetamol.
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
Childrens Benelin was recommended to me & always keep a bottle in, amongst a boat load of other things.
