A morning out.

Went out this morning with my mate Willie, and his two nephews. Got to our permission, and our terriers started marking, right in the middle of some thick cover!

Nothing surprising with that, as all the rabbits on our permissions have their buries in the thick stuff, it's the reason why I'll never be likely to be posting photos of big bags of rabbits on here. It's bloody hard work getting to buries round here, but it's worth it for the sport.

So, it was out with the machete & bill hook, and on to clearing holes.

Down went the ferret, and after a short while came thumping, then nothing. A short while later, I saw my albino jill sneaking off into an ivy patch a short distance away, must have come out of a missed hole! So, I got closer to the cover to gaff her, looked again, and saw that she had something in her mouth, it was only a rabbits arse!

Willie jumped into the cover & gaffed the rabbit, fert still attached!

On the next marked bury, (more clearing out needed!) we netted up, and entered the ferret. After a short while, a rabbit bolted & was quickly dispatched.

As I was trying to untangle the net & put it back down, I caught sight of a pair of coney eye's peering out of the tunnel. Willie chucked me a fresh net to put down, and the rabbit disappeared back down the hole. A second later, as I was putting the net over the hole, I heard bumping getting closer to the hole, I didn't have time to set the net properly, so I just held it open, and the rabbit ran straight into it, result!

Here's a few pics of the 'nice' view from the second bury!

So, three rabbits in the bag, a good morning for us. Some folk might think that we're mental for ferreting in conditions like these for such small catches, but for us, there's not much choice. The other alternative is to not bother, and just keep the ferrets in a cage in the garden as ornaments, and pets.

Not much of an alternative, is it?
