Imho i think working stamina is a lot different to running stamina ie the collie has got working stamina those that i have seen crossed with greyhounds then crossed again with other lurchers ie saluki or deerhound always seemed to have more running stamina.atb dell

I saw some Husky X Grey puppies advertised near me, was interested and wanted to have a look but my dad talked me out of it, people talk about good GSD X Greys and the Husky isn't any heavier built so i don't see that that would be a problem, i would be very interested to see how this cross would turn out.

Husky X Grey ? I would'nt touch it with a barge pole.

It would make a saluki cross look trainable.

I don't think you can make any comparisions with this cross and a GSD cross, like chalk and cheese when it comes to temperament and trainability.

If there is one thing you need a lurcher to do is come back quickly on command and not be there bawling at a dog and scaring every bit of game away in a 1 mile radious.

spot on, as i said colliexgrey xsalukixgrey, seem to produce good stamina, maybe its hybrid gene's. And as you say look at alot of working dogs [not running dogs] =collies, labs springer's, will go all day [at one pace] same with bullterrier [pit] , but totally differnt form of stamina that a running dog uses.

been thinking about breeding the ultimate stamina running dog, a lot of people got opinions on the ultimate cross for stamina .ie, saluki, border collie, bull, ect. my thoughts and my thoughts only - suluki, fellhound, siberian husky, border collie, apb terrier. the correct percentage of all these breeds crossed with the correct percentage of greyhound would produce an amazing dog for > stamina, drive, hunting ability, intelligence, speed ect, < a lot of people will say stick to whats been proven over the years, im not one for tradition, why not try to breed a mongeralised exceptional running dog that beats tradition. opinions please . Hi mate no disrespect here.I think stamina can only be gained by hard work and a good diet.Had my dogs out this morning for three hours.7 till 10.My son is just taking them out again.Dont expect i will see him untill 4 or 5 O Clock. They dont get this every day.But you do have to put in the time if you want results. No matter what is in the breeding.atb. I have heard on the dog grapevine about the Minshaw dogs, never seen one myself but do know one or two good honest friends who like HBG said that these dogs can put stuff in the gamebag? I am quite intrigued by the Husky x myself ;) .All the best PP.

Vert true, thats why my dad talked me out of it!!

I had a GSD X Husky, looked like a very handsome GSD, tried to rehome him with the police (unless you were very clued up about dogs he looked pure GSD)

They told me that Huskys had been trained to the same standards and the same way the GSDs were but Huskys had no bite control, once they got hold of someone ALL the training went out of the window so they could not be used!

Slightly off topic but an interesting fact about Huskys which i never knew.

That is interesting Hollie regarding trainability because everybody I see round here with one, spends there whole time being dragged around the park :D

They must be non-dog people who just buy the animal for it's looks without taking into account it is not a dog for the poorly informed.

the huskyx does make a very good dog in the right hands ,and bags of stamina ,and can be worked loose ,been out with one now for the past 9 months and it is now 11 months old .jumps like a stag and has tackled every thing it has been put on . Edited by UNFIT

Instead of taking a Husky I would rather take a Scandinavian Hound(Eurohound) or Greyster.

They both have GREAT stamina and Drive.

i would love to try a saluki x collie/greyhound. then you have the best of all three. stamina brains and speed. my ideal dog..

Hi mate .That what i have just now eight month old.The dog has all the above.I cant find any big fault in the dog.Its coming on a treat.Hopefully it will stay that way.Finding it hard holding him back as hes champing at the bit. Most times would not run a dog untill 10 to 12 month.think i will have to let this dog go early on some easy rabbits.atb.Catcher
