adskibullus 0
ive recently got into hunting and ive got an 11 month bullmastiff x greyhound and i take him out rabbiting every night to the local horse stables wevev not caught anything yet but the dogs came very close on several occasions. the paddock are surrounded by hedges and wood land and the rabbitd tend to hang around here my boys quick but they always escape into hedges. my boy follows them but loses them because the hedges are so thick but he usually flushes them out though but i dont have another lurcher to get them as the come out some people have told me that i will never catch a rabbit with a mastiff x but i positive that i will. i think i need to change my tactics tho. down the yard there are a few jack russels owned by the girls there but there all faggot ones and have no interest in the rabbits at all but i was thinking i know a few people with boarder terriers and if i could use these to flush the rabbits out of the bushes then would my boy stand more of a chance of catching them? also i hunt at about dusk time but is there a time of day or night that the bunnies like to play in open feilds? my dog tends to stalk upto them but they always see him at the last moment and i think that with out bushes to flee to that he would get one. ive also found some of their burrows how do i get my dog to dig at them or is this just a waste of time? any help would be much appreciated and as i sed im determined to prove poeoplke wrong that you wont catch a bunny with a mastiff cross Quote Link to post
Ebo 65
go down there at about midnight with a lamp and your dog on a slip lead dont turn the lamp on straight away try and get to where the rabbits run(edge of the bush) then lamp out into the field you should be able to work the rest out good luck and happy hunting could you get a pic up of your dog thanks Ebo Quote Link to post
lofti 579
like ebo said your better of lamping them, your dog may start to loose intrest soon because theyare going to cover and cant get to them, these sound like difficult bunnis to catch day time. you need to get him some easy rabbits while hes learning, it will do him a world of good! how bigs your boy mate?
