Para it was Shropshire /Staffordshire border , the animal was clipped by a car as i recall & treated at a vet somewhere i just expected a ferret to be dropped off , this wasnt a ferret , that became obvious after it had been here a few days & bit me like no other bite i have had in my life , once i secured it it was fairly easy to look after , wouldnt touch anything other that fur & feather , wouldnt drink from a bottle & it screamed & backed up a corner in the sleeping box spitting venum once it got its barings , i had a gamekeeper friend drop off a turkey he ran over somewhere on his rounds & it was huge so i managed to hack off some for this polecat, it ate very little to start with as i recall , but seemed to favor rabbit , i cant remember exactly when it was but in the last 10 yrs It took 2 of us to get it out of the cage to take it & meet a forsetry commission worker who said there was a good supply off food & other polecats in the area , it wasn't until i saw it go i realised how big it was , it had been curled up in the cage as it was only active after dark & if you went out to it it just scattered back in the sleeping area Quote Link to post
Dowen Pest Control Solutions 0
Heres a couple of pictures of my wild nasty polecat stick your hand in his cage he would have it off Sorry couldent resist only joking but as people have said if it was caught in a Fenn trap it would be dead or seriously injured and even if it was semi wild there is no way you would be able to hold it like that its probably been lost by someone rabbitting. droid 11
The only conclusive way of proving that an animal is a polecat is by mitochondrial DNA analysis. You can't go by looks because a fair proportion of the 'wild polecat' population are hybrids with feral ferret populations. Quote Link to post

will.f11 24
I think the markings on the face are a bit light for a polecat at this time of year. if thats any help. Quote Link to post
