Kay 3,709
I had a wild polecat droppd off here as a ferret yrs ago , didnt see it in the day , it was a doddle to clean out as it scruied off into the run & hid while i did the bedding & them ran back to the bedding box where it stayed till dark. It crapped everwhere & didnt smell like a ferret , its coat had a blue tinge to it in the light , beautifull animal all the same it was released where there was already a population of polecats , nice to see but certainly not an animal ment to be contained in a back garden Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,497
ITS A FERRET , THE SHEAR FACT YOUR HOLDING IT PROVES ITS A FERRET. HOW MANY WILD ANIMALS OF ANY SPIECIES LET YOU HOLD THEM . WITH OUT GOING NUTS OR BEING TERRIFIED. THAT FERRET IS NIETHER Quote Link to post
Malt 379
back foots bent around at a very funny angle id say he was a polecat becuse of the orangy undercoat (wild polecats have this) lovely thing though mate odd that its tame mabey it was a wilden that was in caprivity and escaped? could be a 50/50 cross Well the polecat coloured ferrets I bred this year must be 'wild polecats,' because they are exactly the same colour as that one, & one's got an orangy bib.... Malt 379
mabey the ones that you see on the road dead have it mate usually the ferrets have yellowy undercoats not redy orange Here's a wild poley Will: ITS A FERRET , THE SHEAR FACT YOUR HOLDING IT PROVES ITS A FERRET. HOW MANY WILD ANIMALS OF ANY SPIECIES LET YOU HOLD THEM . WITH OUT GOING NUTS OR BEING TERRIFIED. THAT FERRET IS NIETHER I'd agree with you there TOMO. We caught a polecat in a fenn once, it was smashed to bits, but once we got within 5ft of it, it went mental, hissing, spitting & trying to pull itself towards us using it's front legs. It pulled the chain on the trap tight, trying to get at us. Quote Link to post

diggermad 154
the thing is im not bothered really if its wild or not my only concern is that the ferret is not in any pain if its ok i will keep it and eventually will try and breed off it and then try and work it but all the vet wants is money off you even though i spent 90 quid at my vets 3 weeks ago for treatment on my 6 year old polecat hob cheers mate Quote Link to post

There's no doubt it's a ferret as there's no way you'd be able to handle a polecat. Credit to you for making sure it's okay. Regarding breeding and working it, I'd be inclined to work it before I bred with it for obvious reasons. Quote Link to post
