Mr_Logic 5
Out with Deker initially on one of my permissions tonight, thinking of muntjac if we could find them, and foxes and rabbits. Although Deker spotted a muntie to start with, couldn't find it to shoot sadly. So we wandered off after anything we could find. After a short walk we were going across a field, Deker spots something moving on the far hedge, still daylight at this point. I had a quick look through the scope, it was a fox. Fair old way out, too far for Deker's HMR, so while it was definitely his turn, my 223 was needed. Bang, smack, down he goes. Ranged to 200 yards (207 I think it said, but the rangefinder needed to range the gate to the left, so call it 200 flat) One very posed picture later: We wandered back to the car the long way, running out of light. Deker needed to dash off by this point, so I strapped on the lamp and shone it around. No sooner had Deker pulled away than I spotted another fox. He was on a hedgeline, moving across about 150 yards away. I followed him in the scope and he stopped to look around. Bad plan Charlie! Bang, CRACK! went down instantly. Got there and found out why there was such a crack, got the shot slightly low so I took out the bottom half of the brain, and the jaws. 223 40gr sure does expand PDQ! Did the job brilliantly. Always the way, had Deker had a couple more minutes to spare, that one could have been got with the HMR, presented nicely for the head shot. Had a bit more of a mooch around, one possible bunny rabbit but I couldn't find the body as it was shot (at?) in foliage. Decided it was time to call it a day then, Chinese beckoned Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
Another successful night Mr L and Deker. Either tool would do well for the job, range and the man behind is the thing. Just come back myself, another fox with Sounder. Keep at em SS Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Hi Mr. 'L' which lamp do you use mate, and,do you get any reflection off the moderator.I use a T8 mind, what is the mod in the pic that you were using.............Martin. I use a Lightforce 170, and I do get some reflection. I have found that some scopes suffer more than others on the same setup - I had an MTC on my Remington for a bit, that was unusably awful at night, stuck my Hawke on it and it was perfect - I could see clear as anything. The neoprene helps a bit, but basically I need a new scope. Trip to USA soon The moderator is Country Pursuits' own. I am happy with the weight and the size, but the moderation is crap. It's bearable, that's about all that can be said. He wants £200 for the moderator, I paid considerably less. Had I paid £200 I would have been back next day, but since I didn't, I am not too worried, might end up on the HMR though. The neoprene cover on top of it is for a DM80, much longer. The Country Pursuits mod is much smaller as it's not a reflex type. Quote Link to post
