weaning pups from bitch to food -

I've used ready brek and goats milk too!! Moving on to Beta puppy soaked in warm water (Beta is my preferred choice) and meat.

Cows milk isn't easily digestible, although unpasteurised is alot better than the stuff you buy in the supermarkets.

You can't cut corners when they're pups or they'll never reach their full potential. Not that I'm slating the guy who said bread and milk, it's a belief of the older generations that that's the best and if someone a bit older advises you, ten to one, that's what they'll say. It doesn't matter how many times I've told my g.ma that it does them or hedgehogs or whatever, NO GOOD, she still suggests it every time!!

When our pups are 14 days old they start getting scraped raw beef,I find after a couple of days they have a taste for it and scramble for the food.

Then its dead easy to get them to start lapping up creamed rice.

By 3 weeks they are beating each other to get the grub.Raw beef and creamed rice.

They get their first worming at 3 weeks, again at 4 weeks, then 7/8 weeks. We use tablets from the vet for puppies.

We have the pups weaned by 5 weeks on beef and rice, mightnt be every ones cup of tea but it gives us nice chunky healthy pups.

They are fully off the bitch by 5/6 weeks. At this age they are getting 4 meals a day.

Some great information thanks for sharing,my bitch has just had 1 pup ,he is feeding well at 2 weeks old but is my bitch likely to get bored with him sooner without other pups involved? Has anyone else hed single litters & should the feeding plan be altered?

No mate your pup should thrive its got no competition ,your bitch wont get bored i will be a relief for her to feed to empty her ...you will have to watch out for mastatisis as some teats will not be used...Keep an eye on her for hardening of any mammary ,try and get the pup on other teats rather than favouring just the one ...

Regards Steve
